Hey whats up everyone.

I rn drive a stock 2009 Honda Accord 2.4 4 cylinder, ~117k miles, no issues.

I'm thinking about getting an exhaust mod, maybe like a muffler replacement? Idk anything about cars tbh and I just want my car to be louder when I rev it up and have a nice rumble.

I would also like to keep my shit street legal so no straight piping. I have shit neighbors and they might try to state ref me or something if i do that.

I heard some things about getting a muffler replacement but idk what that would entail. I don't want anything that could cost me more than $500 out the door and would want something that could be removable/reversible when I sell the car 6-7 months from now.

Also don't want a fart can type car ofc

Anyone got any recommendations? Should I do a muffler replacement? Where could I find a new muffler? Sorry if this is a dumb question I'm really new to all this.

I also want something loud enough that ppl know when im trying to race them

A few misunderstood claims in here, but that’s ok we can clear them up.

#

California lets you modify your exhaust it just has limits on how loud it can be

#

And yes, it’s goofy that some OEM cars may be louder than that limit stock, but outside the purposes of this discussion

#

Where the misunderstanding may be, is that it’s almost always not legal to modify the emissions system, so leave your cats in place.

#

So OP, you want to find a bolt on system that goes from the catalytic converters on back, or a cat-back system

#

Any reputable vendor will have some info on how it will be in a state following California laws.

#

Also, don’t buy an exhaust from any vendor that made the hull for your submarines

appreciate it @somber zealot

#

do you know what exactly a bolt on or a cat-back system is? any youtube videos or things you could refer me to?

My $0.02 if you want your 4 banger to sound better, do an intake.
Won't give you the loud rumble you may want but it will sound way better under load during acceleration

#

Intake will do almost nothing for performance but sounds cool when you turn the engine off and it releases its deep breath

hallow fable
#

how easy is it to remove an intake? does it make the car louder? what will it do to the reliability? how much do they cost typically? is it street legal in CA?

#

sorry if these are dumb questions i really dont know anything

formal sorrel
#

Intake is really easy to do. Hardest part may be accessing the bolts to remove the stock box.
Last time I bought one it cost me about 250 as I recall

I assume almost everything funnw cars is illegal in CA but google the local laws in your jurisdiction

#

It will make your car slightly louder when your are WOT

Deeper more than louder
