I drive a 05 crown Vic , not a PI, and it has 196,xxx miles on it. It is an automatic so I don’t think it’s me that causing the issue but maybe it is. I was parked then I put my car in reverse and I stepped on the gas pedal, and it was like a very quick step on the gas but I pushed it decently hard and then my car stalled. My car has never stalled before when reversing like this but it has been close to almost dying many times so I want to know why it did this and how I can maybe fix this. Thanks in advance! #

To make sure we understand the problem, car runs and drives ok. But, when you put it in reverse, then hit the gas, it stalls? It does not stall when you’re in drive, nor does it stall if you put it in reverse and just let your foot off the brake, correct?
Yes, the car drives very well for its age. But it stalls after I let off the gas and I come to a quick stop, just like you back out of a parking spot and somebody pulls behind you if that gives you an idea.
When was the last time your air filter was changed
Longgggg long time ago 😬😬
I would start with that
My initial thought is it is the transmission fluid. Check your fluid level, if below level, fill it up. If dirty, I would consider a transmission fluid flush. This can cause it to stall in reverse. If that doesn’t work, I would think it is the idle air control valve. If there’s some crazy fault that causes it to stall when it’s in reverse and it isn’t fluid related that’s where I’d guess it’s from.
Okay well thanks for your help I will be taking your advice!
