Prom is still a couple months away but I wanna plan ahead. I want to surprise my gf with a nice car. Problem is I’m 17 and i know rental places won’t rent to me as I can’t sign a contract. I want something like a white c8 or a white huracán. I don’t want my dad to rent it out (I’ll pay ofc) and then I drive it because I’m not sure about the legality of that especially if something happens to the vehicle. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also if you have and car suggestions instead of the c8 or huracán please lmk.
#Renting a car for prom at 17?

Turo is an option, but you’ll likely hit the same obstacle of people being skittish because of your age. If I may suggest, the move might be instead of a high performance car, why not a cool classic? You might have more success getting someone to rent you a suicide door Lincoln continental, or big fin Cadillac. And those will stand out just as much if not more.
I’ve tried looking at Turo and have even talked to some people there and that won’t rlly work. You need to be 18 to rent something under 20k value, 21 to rent normal cars, and 25 to rent the more expensive cars. I’ve thought about going for a classic but it’s just something that does t rlly excite me. If it comes to it I would be ecstatic with that, but it’s a last resort. It’s been a dream of mine to bring a cool sports car to prom.
Yeah…. Hate to say it but it sounds like you already know the answer
Damn… what would the implications be of having my dad rent the car and me driving it?
Technically if your dad rents it he’s supposed to be the one driving it. There’s not really a way to make this work on the up and up. However, if he gets the accidental damage protection and whatever other add-on insurance they sell with the rental, provided there’s no event involving police who identify you as a driver at any point in time, that’s probably as good as it gets. Any chance you know someone with such a vehicle that might let you borrow it?
Can’t legally rent a car in the United States until ur 25. Have ur parents rent the car for you on Turo. Best option.
It’s gonna be pricey tho
Nothing illegal if you don’t get caught. It’s prom go take some risks live a little
I thought it was lower? Swear chevy told me 21
Have the chauffeur (dad in a tux) drive you two to prom
The 25 rule isn’t a law that I’ve ever seen, it’s a function of insurance. If OP wrecks this thing and he is identified as the driver, he and his family will be footing the bill for the vehicle. Edit, that said, I agree with the sentiment. Doesn’t have to be on the up and up, just make for damn sure he doesn’t wrap it around a tree.
Or be a real man and work on the night of prom
I rented a car at 22. They just charged me extra for insurance.
