Hello, IM looking to buy an High impact, how much torque should be enough for a weekend mechanic. I also want something that is going to last.
IS this Milwaukee m18 impact high enough, its max is 640 lb
Any advice would help.

So, I have something similar that is rated for 700lb ft, no idea if that’s an accurate figure. The truth is, I use it rarely. If my smaller impacts don’t get something loose than this might, but it is just as likely that it will break a fastener and leave me in a worse position. Tread carefully here.

You honestly don't need that level of torque-like the other guy who replied, he's 100% right. You're gonna end up breaking something somehow and it won't even be your fault lmao

I would go air

#

Lasts much longer and provides more torque for the price

#

Easy to maintain too

rain gazelle
#

Easier than charging a battery and snapping it in?

…..k

granite grail
#

It is a constant supply of air pretty much on even the shittiest compressors lmao

#

Air is much more versatile too, and lighter

rain gazelle
#

And it has that super convenient hose

granite grail
rain gazelle
#

And the super quiet noise…. Wait, no, that’s not right

#

And the “you also have to buy and maintain a compressor “

granite grail
#

I’m have a shitty husky compression I use for my impact and blowing sanded primer coats. It ain’t that loud. Never heard of a mechanic that was scared of noise

granite grail
#

Not piston

rain gazelle

granite grail

I have a piston and that one you have to maintain. The diaphragm one, I honestly can’t remember if even my dad did any maintenance on it

#

There is a reason why shops use air of electric still

Battery packs are shit and don’t last that long. I love dewalt and have beat the shit out of their tools and they never fail. Just annoying constantly plugging in a battery. Looking at corded battery packs from dewalt to legit replace some battery pack tools I got

But ya an air impact from ingersoll is worth its weight in gold over a electric impact

They are also lighter, and more compact

granite grail
#

Which is gonna last longer too? I know which one will, def it is a ingersoll Rand too. Air tools can last forever if you make sure you lube em every so often.

#

Also I thing the air has a higher starting rpm

#

So ya, electric just ain’t as good

#

Waste imo

granite grail
granite grail
#

That is a stupid ass good deal

granite grail
#

Basically free electric wrench, batteries and impact sockets

#

Where is this deal

#

Home Depot?

#

Yo when did Home Depot get baller ass Black Friday deals, man I have been sleeping

#

I am buying the same deal lol

obsidian stag
#

Well well well

granite grail
#

Actually I might pass on that deal since KMS has a full air tool discount; but I still agree; that Home Depot deal is a steal

#

I just already have an air setup, so I am gonna get an air ratchet and some other air tools I need for Black Friday; but that Home Depot deal is a steal if you ain’t setup for air

pine tendon

Get an m12 fuel ratchet

#

It's life changing

#

Electric has its place and air has its place

Electric is better for the average person working at home

#

In my opinion

granite grail
# heavy coyote I use both and i like electric more tbh

I have been completely redoing my car and a lot of stuff is extremely time consuming. My electric dewalt drill I used with a wire wheel to completely bring my wheel wells and transmission tunnel all down to bare metal. I had to have 2 batteries charging at the same time while using the drill and had to keep on swapping out. So no I wouldn’t agree with that at all. Also imo they pick up rpms quicker than electric.

#

And electric is also gonna heat up, a lot

#

I went through 2 electric die grinders on my project because the motors overheated. Only buying air tools from now on.

#

Had to put them in the freezer and wait a while to try and extend the working time

@granite grail @pine tendon @obsidian stag @rain gazelle
Just read everything now, thank you for making a good point. I will buy it.! Hopefully it last a couple of years.

But the choice is yours

Oh I thought this was just tool and batteries

granite grail
#

But it is a full Black Friday bundle deal

pine tendon
#

Interesting

#

I didn't even know milwaukee made a 1/2" impact that wasn't brushless tbh

#

The only thing that sucks is the fact that all of the sockets are standard

When I was working as an attraction mechanic, battery operated and electric tools just made sense. Guess at this point it’s just based on preference.

#

At home though I use battery operated tools.

I used both at work
