#First Car / New-ish 2020+ / PCP

Mate's got a Kia Picanto X Line, gotta say it looks pretty decent.
What about a VW up! aswell, cheap to insure, and should be relatively cheap to buy. You could get a pre-facelift one (2012 - 2016) for the 4k your gonna put down, and then add a carplay unit to it for around 200 quid.
Honestly, as a first car, I wouldn't splash out a lot of money on one. Not to offend, but you will most likely crash/bump it in your 1st year of driving, or even finance one for a first car, but opinions are opinions.
Wouldn’t get anything under Hyundai (Hyundai, Kia, genesis)
All trash
They have had constant issues in their ICE vehicles such as rod bearing failures, clogged oil passages, and buildup on their valve trains; and their electric vehicles are no better. Both ICE and their electric vehicles have had mass recalls for catching on fire.
Renault and Nissan are under the same company, their drivetrains are gonna be pretty similar to the same.
Also stop posting the same flipping thread
No more
This is your last thread, make up ur mind. Read fricken rules too; u aren’t even allowed to post this and you have done it 3 times. Kinda a spam
A decent first car would be something that ain’t electric and is manual. As once you learn to drive a ICE manual vehicle you can drive any car pretty much.
By sound of it, if they're looking for something electric, I'm gonna hazrad a guess that they've gone for an auto only license
Like I said though, you can fix that. There's a head unit called Carpuride which adds carplay and stuff, however not too sure on the reverse camera.
Electric car as a 1st however, you are going to struggle. There are not a lot of options. Like you said, it's either going to be a Zoe (which are quite outdated now) or a Leaf.
yeah they're not bad, but not what I had in mind
lot of taxis round me use them
I didn't have the money to do what your planning to do, I had 2k to spend on my 1st car. Bought a 2009 Renault Twingo 1.2 60bhp, it's doing me well atm aside from the cambelt going on me (and having to spend 400 quid fixing it) but it was kinda my own fault beacuse it was due when I bought it, and ui thought it'd been done.
I'd go petrol for your 1st car, you have A LOT more options. Wait a couple years then go electric because you will have a lot more choice.
also if you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I'm 19, and pay 2.6k on a box for that twingo
ye your similar to me then
you live in a decent area?
kinda, i'm from up north (west yorkshire)
yeah that's not bad at all, also with finance you can definatley take advantage of the 3 week in advance reduction
wow
ok so if you set your insurance to start 23 days in advance, it can drastically reduce your insurance pricing
also play about with your job role as that can reduce it
i put down that i was a production engineer, my quote was 2.8k. changed it to process engineer, dropped by 200 quid
if your using comparison sites (which most likley you are), i'd highly recommend moneysavingexpert (if you've heard of John Lewis, it's his website). they work with moneysupermarket to help people get cheaper quotes
GG @copper idol, you just advanced to level 3! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
ill do a "mock quote"
give me a min
I'll run it on something your looking at, maybe a Zoe
ill put CH2 as postcode
in fact, just thought of something
One of my other mates has a Hyundai Kona Hybrid, could try them?
Don't buy a kia product if you care about reliability
there's a reason they're cheap
(Just gonna say this, your name doesn't exactly scream "unbiased")
Murder being wrong is a biased opinion
doesn't make it less true
@copper idol ill run it on a e-up
i'll do this
another thing, do this
it knocks your insurance down by a fair bit aswell
decent motors, but expect to pay a bit more, and the only reason is
german.
what industry do you work in btw
e.g. i work in engineering
kinda like evaluating production data?
right
this is the initial job
@woeful ledge you'e helping him more than me so good on you mate
thats with this job role
your kinda lucky here, i put down that you had no additional drivers, and your quote is already less than mine
right
now the "job fiddling" bit lol
when you do it tho, just bear in mind that some companies will want you to prove your title
pick one that best suits what you do
i'd be looking at systems analyst
changed it to systems analyst, it hasn't knocked it down a lot, but it has taken some money off
25 quid difference
but at the moment, the way that insurnace is worked out is scuffed
and they are HEAVILY penalising new drivers
been seeing on tiktok trying to insure cars, and they're getting quotes at 5.5k minimum on a 1.2 polo from 2004
but yeah, just play around abit, but just make sure you can prove the things your putting down
i'm on an apprenticehsip getting paid minimum wage for my age group
i could only just bearly afford my insurance + running costs and other expenses before i got my rise
no
L3
but got a L4 built in
so its kinda like a L3+
yeah well my company like to be tight asses
i practically had to BEG for my wage rise
in fact, ALL OF US APPRENTICES DID.
they weren't gonna give it us because the guy who runs our apprenticeship programme at work was off. lad on 3rd year raised it to main manager, he said that he'll look into it. told me and other lad about it and we both mentioned it
i kicked off about it (in a professional way)
anyways, we had to practically beg for 3 days for em to give us a wage rise, they did it, and then scuffed it up because they paid us under minimum wage
i raised it when apprenticehsip leader came back, he looked into it, they corrected it on next wageslip
honestly, management at my place is so (for lack of a better word) shit.
but anyway, back to cars
I'm gonna share you this e-up, because it looks pretty decent

and to add carplay, this is what you want
or, you could do what my mate's done and do a full radio replacement for a carplay headunit
but, you will be very limited on options
i can't even put a touchscreen in my car because of the positioning of the radio
holy shit the e-up is group 10?!
the petrol ones are group 1 to 4
that's mental
the Zoe and the Leaf, i will be surprised if you get a cheap quote
A1's aren't bad, but you'll probably have to get a lowish trim one, and a 1 litre
will be, also one of the heaviest
think the leaf is the heaviest car there
1 thing, ALWAYS expect to pay more at main dealers
yes, you get warranty and this and that and whatever else, but if you can also find a reputable used car dealership (e.g. Arnold Clark, Motorway, Available Car, Trade Centre UK) they will also have some of the same benefits
Arnold Clark are a proper dealership aswell, in my town they're the main dealer for Renault
or maybe Vertu aswell, which tend to be the likes of VW

Before anyone says "ew french", have you looked at the newer shape Citroen C1/Peugeot 108?
also another thing you might want to look into, rather than doing PCP, have you thought of doing a bank loan instead?
you might get a lesser interest rate than what the PCP is
hence why i'm looking at a Seat Leon as my next car, it's what i learnt in
lemme have a look
also there's "every persons 1st car in britain" (the ford focus)
was it a new shape 208? (2020 onwards)
ok, i'll have a look at the previous generation one aswell

that's a 2017 (67 plate) 208

6 years old isn't that bad for a car
i mean jesus, my dad's car is 22 years old ffs
a car's lifespan on average is between 12 - 15 years
mine turns 14 next month
but yeah, here's an example of a car that's been written off for that check
which btw, is also my dads car XD
an evoque went into side of him
THIS.
i didn't even let my dad have any influence on what car i bought
but then again, he ain't a car person, he prefers his bikes
my oldest brother helped me find a car
Agewise, you live quite close to London, so I'd say anything newer than 2015.
reason being, ULEZ.
(im gonna get technical)
Euro standards are what affect all the ULEZ/LEZ/CAZ zones, and decide whether you get charged or not for entering them.
They don't work from CO2 output, which is the common myth. They work off of the Euro Standard of a car, which is based off NOx emissions.
For you not to get charged in these zones, you need a car that's compliant (duh).
So, to put it simply:
For a diesel to be compliant, it has to meet EURO 6 standards, which is any car newer than 2015.
For a petrol car to be compliant, it has to meet EURO 4 or above standards, which is any car newer than 2005.
Of course, electric cars are exempt as they "don't emit any CO2 or NOx output" (which is actually bullshit).
Considering your budget, I wouldn't get anything less than a EURO 6.
yes.
if anything, it is THE definition of a money making method
i work in the Bradford CAZ zone, but luckily private cars don't have to pay (unless your a pickup), yet.
it partly influenced what i was looking at, as i didn't want to go below 2006 at a push.
all of the cars your looking at atm, are EURO 6 anyway, but with the A1, Picanto, i10 and the up!, be careful
yes, my dad being one of them
on benefits, can't work due to health, and is too old to be hired by any company (he's 4 years off retirement age)
worked all his life to be told "live off your savings"
his car is broke atm aswell, thanks to a range rover that flooded his engine, he's having to use my brother's spare car
and beacuse of it's age, it's just not viable to fix it
at best part, it's worth 800 quid beacuse of the Cat N marker (without it being categorised it's worth about 1500 quid) and to fix it is probably going to cost more than what it's worth
