No clue what is causing this, I woke up one morning to go to work and the car idled and started like normal, however whenever I tried going over 1,500 rpms it would choke up and it felt like I had no power. Also the car had a faint burning smell to it. Before this the car was running perfectly fine. If anyone can share their thoughts that would be greatly appreciated

A 2000 Civic SI is a cool car.

#

Could be a really dirty throttle bottle. Do you have any codes?

#

Does it happen when it’s cold or at operating temp or both?

I just replaced the fuel filter and it did nothing

#

I tried blipping the throttle and it gave me no response, I had to hold the pedal down for a second before the revs started climbing. Even then they went up really slow and the car didn’t sound happy

I realized I said throttle bottle and not throttle body lol

#

I think you should take your intake off and take a look at your throttle body

I cleaned it and it looked fine

#

Could it be the throttle position sensor?

Is this car drive by wire? I would think if it’s the tps, that you would get a code.

#

Sorry I don’t know too much about the B16

#

Yeah it’s cable throttle

#

If that’s what u mean

#

It might be bad gas but I just got the issue overnight

#

It was so random, one day I just went to go to work and it stalled in neutral as I was backing out of my driveway

Do you have my codes?

@tranquil wraith found out it was the timing belt that’s loose, must’ve been the cold from that morning that caused it to slip

#

Shops saying they need to install a timing belt kit which includes the water pump. Pretty sure it’s a scam considering the price

tranquil wraith
#

Well a DOHC is a little more involved but not sure how a timing belt would slip given it has teeth. It could jump teeth but not slip

#

Did you install the timing belt?

#

It usually involves replace the timing belt, tensioner, idler(if you have one), and the water pump.

#

Which would included new coolant as well

#

I would also replace the cam shaft seals and the crank seals since your going to have all of the stuff that’s would normally be in the way out of the way

Yep 1200 is the price the shop gave me

#

And yes sorry it jumped teeth

plush igloo
#

So yea I think it’s the factory timing belt, the tensioner was also bad

#

I feel like it’s probably worth getting it done

tranquil wraith
#

What does it include? That is a lot of money

Shit my go-to mechanic just went from $110/hr to $130/hr in the last month

tranquil wraith
#

But your right the labor prices have gone through the roof

#

I remember in my early twenties paying for an alignment that cost 90 bucks at the dealership

#

Had an alignment done on my rav4 a couple of weeks ago at the dealer

#

175 bucks

proven basalt
#

Yea if that's the case could be worth getting a second opinion

#

Damn the dealer I work for still only charges $130 for a 4 wheel alignment

plush igloo
#

would it be worth to get the shop to adjust my valves as well?
