Hi all, this is my first car and am not exactly the most technical when it comes to car parts.

I had a leak in my coolant pipe which me and a friend attempted to fix. Another friend came along and tried to ppull the pipe out as the bottom clip was rusted, in doing so he broke off a part of what it was connected to. We got the pipe off of the bottle no bother but whatever it ran to at the bottom (my friend said its called the mickey) broke. He asled the garage he works in what it would be to fix, which they said a couple hundred due to all the parts that would be needed to move to get to it. I dont have that. All the coolant poured out when it cracked off so it cannot be driven.

I was considering melting the plastic on the original piece and the piece that broke off and then re-attatching the new coolant pump but am unsure if that would work. If anyone could give me any tips or suggestions it would be lovely as i have pretty much no money and am heartbroken as its my first car.

In the yellow circle is the bit that broke off, also the blue circle I was told is like a diy job on a gasket or something (this image is from under the car)

#

This is the piece that the coolant pipe connected on to, the clamp was around it so when it was pulled the bit cracked off too

#

This is what the pipe looks like on the piece

Oh crap

#

Yeah that's not an easy fix

shadow prairie
#

yeah 😦

rose valley
#

What'd you say the shop takes?

shadow prairie
#

was told could be couple hundred

#

wdym

rose valley
#

If it's 200 bucks or so including labour, then it's worth it to have them fix it

shadow prairie
#

yeah true

#

see my issue is, car cost me 2500 and is pretty clean all around but as u see in the blue mark there was a few diy jobs done yano

#

and i dont really have much else money

rose valley
#

Yeah I understand

shadow prairie
#

and since the coolant leaked out will need to be towed which is another sum

rose valley
#

You can use water if it's a really short drive

shadow prairie
#

but how will i get it in cause its where the coolant pump connects to

#

You mean it just pours out as soon as it comes in?

shadow prairie
#

ye like

#

pump is connected to the coolant bottle, and runs down to that connection that broke off

#

where the coolant goes into engine

#

so no way for coolant to go in

rose valley
#

I see

#

A temporary fix would be to melt the plastic back on it

shadow prairie
#

a friend was saying i could do a plastic weld

rose valley
#

Yeah

shadow prairie
#

ye exactly

rose valley
#

If you're capable of doing that, then you can get away not only with a temporary fix, but it might solve the issue entirely

shadow prairie
#

but would u say it would be better for me to plastic weld and try sell or keep, its my first car, i like it but also have fuck all money to fix issues yanp

shadow prairie
#

friend was saying it could work or it could work short term and fuck up later

rose valley
#

I'd say try plastic welding

#

It can't get much worse

shadow prairie
#

lol true

rose valley
#

Worst case scenario, it doesn't help at all

#

Best case, it fixes it

#

So there's no loss

#

Other than a waste of time

shadow prairie
#

ye true

#

would it be smart to just do that then sell it?

rose valley
#

If you feel like it, you could try selling it

shadow prairie
#

yeah might do
