#selecting a NA compression ratio for a m54b25

As stated I'm wondering if I should change the compression ratio on my m54b25

I plan on keeping it NA and I'm currently going to be putting forged internals in the motor
So I was wondering if while I am doing that I should increase the CR as it will be having a standalone ECU tune as well

If you're staying na for sure then yeah why not

subtle flame
#

Mainly worried about what issues I may run into besides the obvious of heat
As it's port Injection not direct

sturdy ginkgo
#

Do you plan on upgrading anything else on the car?

#

Besides the tune

subtle flame
#

basically everything
Putting a m50 intake manifold on it
Equal length headers
no cat of course
And a few other things

#

The motor isn't going into a bmw so

sturdy ginkgo
#

Oh you got money to throw at this thing then

subtle flame
#

Removing power steering pump as it's not needed for this car

sturdy ginkgo
#

What is it going in?

subtle flame
#

Triumph tr7

sturdy ginkgo
#

...holy shit

#

That thing is gonna haul ass

subtle flame
#

it fits and is lighter then the original motor

#

My minimum goal is 250 whp NA
Which should be possible easily as that's just 100 HP per L

sturdy ginkgo
#

Yeah you could do that

subtle flame
#

But am just having the debate of
Do I increase the CR to 12.5:1 for higher thermal efficiency and the extra 8% HP gain
Or keep it at 10.5:1 and have it be there

sturdy ginkgo
#

Are you staying na because you can't stuff a turbo in it?

subtle flame
#

Turbo would be too much power lmao

#

And I want the instant throttle response of na

sturdy ginkgo
#

Why not sc then?

subtle flame
#

cause the only real SC available for the car is 5k usd

#

Like
Ok willing to dump money into it
But even that's too much

#

I'm already dumping like 4k into the transmission

sturdy ginkgo
#

Ah

subtle flame
#

car will be funny enough running the same trans as the mk5 supra but with a standalone TCU

sturdy ginkgo
#

You could go sequential turbo and get good throttle response with easy power

#

Do you ever plan to go for more power in the future?

subtle flame
#

Car weighs sub 2k lbs lol

subtle flame
sturdy ginkgo
#

See that's what all the exocet people say

#

Then they put an ls in it

subtle flame
#

If I was doing a time attack car with a class specific motor I would be doing a AWD k20a with turbos into it

#

The car will already have a power to weight ratio of 6
anything more is reaching undailyable levels

sturdy ginkgo
#

I'm impressed at the amount of thought you put into this

#

I would run a very small turbo

#

And lower the compression ratio

subtle flame
#

ADHD + a bit of tism + I have been wrenching on cars since I was 8

#

If not younger

subtle flame
sturdy ginkgo
#

I don't like going for higher numbers na but you do you
You could do itb's

#

That would give you amazing throttle response

subtle flame
#

True
Was thinking about it

#

As I already have to run custom air box

#

ASA plastic my beloved

#

it's really asa 3d printed parts body filler and a certain paint so even the intake air is smooth

sturdy ginkgo
#

I'd leave the compression ratio and run itb's. You should be able to hit your hp goals with that

subtle flame
#

that's what I might do unless the 12.5:1 has a really good benefit that I'm forgetting
Tho probably still going to run forged internals just as a safety and a fuck it why not

sturdy ginkgo
#

Yeah

#

If you're gonna rev it high go forged

subtle flame
#

Revving to about 8k is the plan

#

Probably on track and daily use have it set to 7.5k redline tho

sturdy ginkgo
#

Fair enough

subtle flame
#

The 8 speed transmission will already been providing a pretty good boost for a lot of things as well

#

50 Ms shift times my beloved

sturdy ginkgo
#

If my miata's old engine can go to 7.1k you should be completely fine

sturdy ginkgo
subtle flame
#

It also has sequential shifting options so

sturdy ginkgo
#

... fucking hell i need a better job

#

How much is this whole build gonna run you?

subtle flame
#

i make only like 55k a year I just spend it on only the bare minimum

#

Planning for about 15k
Probably less

sturdy ginkgo
#

Including the car?

subtle flame
#

Car was only 1.5k

#

The motor + wiring harness+ alternator+ ac compressor+ injectors
500$

sturdy ginkgo
#

Huh

#

Well man best of luck on your build

#

You mind dm'ing me a video of it driving when it's done?

subtle flame
#

Sure
Might take a few months lmao
as it has a lot of work needing to be done

#

Am doing everything correctly which takes a lot of time

subtle flame
#

Not the
Eh lil scoring lemme take a brillo pad and sand paper to it

sturdy ginkgo
subtle flame
#

I'm 21 lmao
Currently about to start part time college

sturdy ginkgo
#

I dislike people who hold cars together with bondo, hopes, dreams, and black magic

subtle flame
#

Same
I had to use JB weld for the first time and I died inside
Was a temp fix while a new radiator arrived

#

I only use bondo funny enough for my 3d prints

sturdy ginkgo
#

My miata's alternator was hanging by a bolt that was half out

subtle flame
#

My Camry looks like shit hut runs fine*
I keep it looking a lil shitty honestly as theft deturant

sturdy ginkgo
#

The transmission dipstick isn't secured and I'm 99% sure it has an oil leak and transmission oil leak
Fuck mechanics who do horrible jobs putting new engines in

subtle flame
#

Oof

sturdy ginkgo
#

The family friend i bought it from charged 4k

subtle flame
#

Yeah my only issue is
Gas cap oring
And front right side needs love due to a bird strikes
And rear bumper is paint peeling like all 99 Camry

sturdy ginkgo
#

Yeah that's not bad at all
