#engine oil light on
87 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
haven’t done obd scan as garage has been shut due to owner being on holiday. I’m brand new to cars , how can I check oil filter?
@cedar spade is it the red light that's on?
@stray plank yes sir
When is the last time you've had an oil change
Also are there any abnormal sounds coming from the engine?
its usually next to the oilpan underneath the car, its kinda hard to check and requires to lift the car up so that you can get underneath it. you can buy basic obd scan tools cheap at a local hardware store
@stray plank not too sure is I just bought the car it has brand new mot and was serviced around 3 months ago. There’s a slight bubbling sound every 3-7 seconds after car engine is off after long drive.
Does the car have an oil pressure gauge or just the light
No just the light
probably doenst, an obd tool could identify at least the error code, then you could google it and see what it means
If there aren't any weird sounds I would guess it's probably the pressure sending unit
Can you take a picture of the dipstick?
Yes will send one in 5 mins. Would an obd scanner tell me if it’s pressure sending unit?

It could be throwing a code
If it isn't a genuine low oil pressure condition then there are a few possible causes
it probably gives a code if you scan it if it gives a warning light, youd think so
It's worth a try
especially since how cheap they are usually, the basic ones that is
You may also be able to see the sensor data as well if there is no code
so it has plenty of oil
Sure does, hasn’t gone down at all since driving it
Ive driven it 581 miles in a week
i feel like it has to either be in the oil pressure like the oil circulation is too low for some reason or the quality of oil itself, im more leaning to the first one
I’ve ordered a obd scanner going to collect it now
hope it helps
its fairly easy to use too. you also need to have the car running in order to get full diagnostics
There’s a tiny clicking noise
If it isn't making noise it's probably just a sensor or wiring issue
Did it sound like that before
hopefully not a wiring issue, its hard to start pinpointing what wire is faulty
There's a reason that my oil gauge always reads zero and my check gauges light is on
depends where op lives but it might not go through inspection if its on
it would probably give you a generic "electric fault" code or something
For an oil light?
That's crazy
if its the red one yea
not sure what the laws are in uk but at least in europe it wouldnt go past inspection
It says no codes
while the cars running?
No it says not to turn engine on whilst it’s in
oh
damn that complicates things
Yeah it says no codes again
Engines on now rescanned nothing
is the oil light on
Yep 😂
its on all the time, it doesnt randomly turn off
Constantly on yeah was starting off just as I started driving but I’m parked up now it’s still on

i found this
an Oil Pressure light on the dash of a 1.2 Corsa is known by the manufacturer as a common fault.
the oil pressure switch due to bad design allows for deterioration of the internals and allows oil to travel through the sensor itself.
this results in oil being able to leak from the electrical connector and can cause issues such as the warning lig...
tells to check the oil switch
Will it be same under bonnet as mines 1.4
maybe, if not it shouldn't be hard to find
lol yah oil is viscous so its sometimes hard to just see if it leaks, its good to physically touch to see if oil leaks. if its a big leak then its easier to see. but yea now you know what the problem is ^^
Is the light always on or does it only come on when you start driving and the engine warms up
its on when it’s warmed up
But found the problem it’s the oil pressure switch, needs replacing
Thanks for the help @sage falcon
np, hope its not too expensive to replace but it most likely isnt
I still suggest not driving it till you get a new switch and confirm that the current one is faulty
because it could still be actual low oil pressure judging by the symptoms
Engine warms up -> viscosity goes down just enough to turn on the light
What would I have to look for to fix low oil pressure
Bearings, oil pump, pressure control valve
don't know much about these engines
does the light go away when you raise the rpm?
right thing to do would be to measure the oil pressure with a gauge, but you need a gauge and an adapter.
No the light doesn’t go off when I raise it
Broke my car 😂
yea its goon to not drive it since if oil starvation is a risk it might destroy your engine
