I just got this message. After restarting it’s gone away and it idles and runs perfectly like it has the past month (I’ve owned it for a month). its a 325i 2010, e90. Should I be worried?

It’s a 13 year old bmw, it’s bound to have some sort of issue

It seems to me like it was some sort of electrical or mechanical gremlin. I don’t have enough information to say if you should be worried or not.

Did the cel come on? Any other dashboard lights? Did you hear any strange noises?

just like what florida man said, it's old and bound to have some problems. I can't give you any advice as i haven't taken a look at it but do as it says, go get it serviced.

Not sure if the engine light on the dash came on because I almost immediately turned it off and on again after which it never showed me that error again. I drove for about 50 miles after that. But at no point before, during or after that message did it make strange noises or anything else out of the ordinary. Like I said it’s been running as smooth as it possibly can for as long as I’ve had it.

Also, I have a cheap obd2 scanner that I read the car with but it didn’t show me anything. Not sure if it scanned every possible thing but it showed nothing that was alarming.

I’ve ran into that issue with my 13 bmw 328i. It also showed on screen some faults regarding the full drive train power unavailability. As well as keyless start proximity sensor no longer working. In the end for me it was just a bad battery. I’m guessing low voltage caused sensors to trip up. But this is just from my personal experience
