GG @candid crag, you just advanced to level 14! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
It increases with rpm ?
Yeah
So far I've had 2 mechanics tell me different things
one of them said water pump but it's the wrong side of the engine
what were they
Yeah so that’s what we call in the industry a big ouchie
Ain’t no way
and another said turbo. I've checked the intake side and have no issues there, no play no scoring on the housing
The turbo I could almost believe
Haven't taken the exhaust side of because... well it's behind every fucking thing known to man
But not water pump wtf
It sounds like top end
Any lights on dash
Oh
Yes I checked my oil too
Couldn't see any shiny magic bits in there
And level was fine
I am really bad at checking my oil level all the time lol
Normally anything related to any vvt would throw a code
Abarth?
Yeah
Was gonna say
Someone online said I might have snapped a cam but I'd expect a cam position code
Same thing with a knock
Oohhhhh I love them so
Yeah
It's such a strange noise
Nothing I've been told makes sense when I listen to it
maybe it could be a tranny thing
Like I mean it could be a valve issue (dropped one)
Like the flywheel area
It does it in neutral, 1st and 2nd (only gears I dare to try)
I would agree with you and video sucks for picking it up but it sounds like the top of the engine yeahg
ALSO
Idk if I turn the car off in the video, I try not to watch it
But when I turn the engine off it makes like a squealing noise?
I might try and capture that tomorrow
Honestly nothing makes sense
I've looked up so many things too
Apparently these engines are super strong as are the gearboxes
Like you can get 260BHP out of them before you need to think about rods and pistons
This car runs like 170 ish
When it's fixed I'm going to have them redo the tune though
Maybe the water pump couldn’t be too far off
The only way I would expect a water pump to result in a loss of power is if it was clogged
So the water pump is on the same side as the coolant resevoir and the noise comes from the engine nearer the battery
But you would likely be hearing even worse noises
Which is why I have my doubts
Also it was a completely sudden noise
no prior warning
Yeah I doubt it’s that
From experience water pumps give you a bit of warning first
The experience being I owned a 2002 Mini Cooper
I was almost thinking of a failing fuel pressure regulator
Making that noise though?
Since that would make quite the ticking and would result in a loss of power
I wouldn't have thought it'd be that loud though
yeah not sure if it would be THAT extreme
Idk if the vid does it justice but the noise is very loud
Also in regards to a snapped cam, I'd definitely expect more than that clicking
I'd expect a healthy (or unhelthy) clunk noise
Maybe you went out of time
If the valves have given the pistons a little smooch I will be devastated lul
But there's never a bad time to go forged pistons and rods
it’s hard to predict wether the ecu would throw a code
Since I’ve never heard of this brand and don’t know what they’re like
Italian
LOL
That's all you need to know
People alwayts complain about electrical faults
Only one I've had is Turbo Pressure Gauge (non legit, it runs of what the ECU expects the pressure to be fitted as standard)
huh
🤌
lmao
Oh @candid crag another funny opinion came through
"maybe it's the head gasket where it meets the exhaust manifold"
sounds abt right
Car is booked into a shop Tuesday, got it all confirmed this morning.
I ain't got time or good place to remove or strip the engine
So I'm giving it to a mate who runs a garage
He's gonna find out what it is for me and then if it's a relatively cheap (£2500) then I'll get him to do it and tune the car while it's there
ah ok
I'll keep you posted though
I'm so curious to find out what the noise actually is
I was so close to getting a unit, if I had done that I could strip the engine myself but at home I have no space
Ripp
maybe the rockers broke
