So i was driving to work on the highway and I switch from overdrive to drive a lot because cars in my area don't know how to drive but while switching from overdrive to drive the car wouldn't move and I'm now stuck on the side of the road

The car moves alil whenever I first shift it into a gear (reverse and drive ) but then stops and acts like it's in neutral but sometimes it makes a grinding sound
