I've had a bad CV joint for a while now that's been ''knocking'' when turning left but the car felt normal so i was thinking of changing the CV Joint when i have the time. Today when driving i heard a consistent noise coming from one of the front tires, it gets worse when i turn a little. It does not sound like the CV joint. Could the bad joint have damaged something else? like a wheel bearing? and is it unwise to even consider driving the car now?

I'd definitely consider getting it looked at sooner rather than later, especially being a steering component
If you're suspicious about the wheel bearing there is a easy way to test them. Raise the car up so the wheel moves freely. Then start spinning the wheel by hand, while holding the other hand on the cars spring. If you can feel kocks or vibrations in the spring then the bearing is quite bad
If the bearing is very worn you can wiggle the wheel by holding either hand at top and bottom of wheel and rocking it, there should be no play at all
Or grab the tyre at the top and bottom and gently rock it. Make sure you have it jacked safely. With jackstands. If it falls and crushes your hand, that would suck
Spin the wheel around to check bearing play
And put a lever under the tyre and gently move it upwards to check ball joints
Isnt that just what i wrote 😂 but for it have play it has to be very worn. They can still make noice without rocking
Yea my thing didn't load whilst I was typing it
Better to be told twice than not at all
Aah yeah true
Jacking it from the contr arm is best as it eliminates all suspension movement and means you can truly test the wheel bearing and ball joints
And shouldn't trust only me, me no smart. Many more are better at this stuff then me
I've only done a few wheel alignments
But I checked lots of cars for pre-alignment
Ive maybe diagnosed 100 - 200 cars with suspension problems
So many unsafe cars on the roads man...
Its insaine
