#What would be considered a good first car(for around 6-7k USD)?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
What do you want in the car?
^
ye depends on what u want out of it
like features and how ur gonna use it
what u like in a car
etc
@grizzled wraith @terse stone @inland pier , good point, just kinda anything really, I don’t have too much cash on hand(like 7000, I’m 17), something smaller would be nice just cause of the area I’m in, and something with good gas mileage. And if it has a cool factor that would be better.
Good mileage and cool doesn't really go together unless you get a motorcycle ( not the dumb sportbikes )
My cruiser get 50mpg
@wide kayak
R56 Mini Coopers are really good cars. They get pretty good mileage and are fun to drive, I’m getting one for my first car.
Sadly not old enough in the state of Virginia to own one, already looked into it💀
Mini coopers are pricey to maintain from what I hear
Nissan versas get great gas mileage
Toyota Prius do too
If I could find one without issues💀
Unless you're doing a lot of traveling though, I suggest getting a truck
my car was 1800 so... 7k is alot
You can pretty much fully independent with a truck
Ford rangers have 4 cylinder engine options that get 20+ mpg
find some shitbox on fbm
A great first vehicle
fix it up
If I was holding it longer for a year I would,
GG @wide kayak, you just advanced to level 2! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
y would u buy a car for up to 7k and not keep it for a while
I. Know. That. Truck. I. Ain't
No. Stranger. I. Know. That. Truck, it's a ford fucking ranger
If you're not going to keep the car don't spend that much on one
Well that is just what I have on hand, would like to not spend that much, but as I’m in the DC area, prices are inflated
Another great thing about ford rangers is they are dependable and they are cheap
oh im in md
I see running ford rangers needing tlc going for $600 lmao
ill help u find car
Bet,
Was looking at a mini cooper, great miles, solid year, but there was a stupid sellers note saying it need electrical work, no fucking idea what that means, but it could be super small, or super big, don’t want to spend 5k and end up having a 3k repair cost,
That’s kinda what my situation is like, I find something promising, then something just says nope😅
Why ask what car would be good if you're set on a mini Cooper?
Were you just hoping we would say a mini Cooper would be best? Lol
ew dont get box car
Mini coopers are adorable imo
No, just something I was looking at and got excited about
But they aren't for poor people like me
Needed other options, that’s why I’m here
It’s a mini cooper, but it’s a mini cooper😅
But I'm not going to ever willingly own a front wheel drive car
Looking at the trucks tho, might be a good option for my area
I'm not putting myself through that
mini coopers ugly imo
The only fwd cars I would justify myself getting is if they got like 40mpg
I mean yea, but no😅
ew... good gas mileage xD
if u just want a car to last less than a year buy some shitbox off fbm for cheap
Fbm ?
getting a FWD is tricky business if you're gonna work on it yourself. Gotta be able to trust the manufacturer to know what they were doing
Facebook Marketplace.
^
ye gl with that... the newer it is the more the engineers fucked u over
fr fr
fuck panels
Its just simpler to buy rwd, but they're just getting more rare
cause manufacterers r catering to the average driver
people want cars they can drive in any conditiom
*Drive in any condition, Without having the neccesary skills required to drive in any condition
obv
Unfortunately companies are selling cars for the average non mechanically inclined person, so they have been going crazy with adding more complexities each year, relying on the fact that most people will just bring their car to a mechanic
ye ye
Now they are trying to take the mechanic out of the equation and forcing you to take the car to their stealerships to fix it
Aka Tesla
Mini coopers are... Alright... but ngl, they come with all the issues of a BMW, All the issues of a british car, and they're FWD
sooo
Reliability wise they're Piles of Garbage
You know what's the most bullshit thing?
panels
Lol,
Originally fwd was introduced so you didn't have a hump in the middle so you could enjoy more floor space. (Along other things of course ) but every fwd vehicle I have seen has a huge center console built in for the shifter and e brake
Why?
Tbh, I just need something reliable, but not too sure abt it,
go for it if you want. Dont give it any more power unless you stop by the machine shop to get your engine rebuilt with new studs and Oil passages
The shifter on the steering column is the perfect place for a shifter
buy a shitbox off fbm thats in good condition
an old shitbox
itll be cheap and should last u about a year
@wide kayak I presented you 3 incredible reliable vehicles buddy
Was just looking there, looked like a bunch of scams,
If you Properly Commit to the Rotary and all the regular hassle that comes with, and Dont remove the redline, its as reliable as anything else
thats y i said id go with u... i only have very basic knowledge but i can help ish
@inland pier @craggy shadow they only need it for under a year so im tryna save them money
I have no idea why they moved the shifter from the steering column
Yea, already found a ford ranger for a good price
ah
Steering column auto shifter was the best location in my opinion
Column shifters always felt weird to me
You could of your redneck enough
Just shift it from the side of the transmission itself
If you think column shifters are weird I would love to see how you feel about column shifting manual transmissions lol
y have a shifter at all
just manually change the gears urself while driving
just stick ur hand down there and yank the gears into place xD
Of course
Why not just go further
Just chuck Norris the bitch and tell the transmission to change gears with a stern voice
They will obey out of respect
If you're transmission is slipping, tell it no
It can't legally slip without your consent
xD
y have a transmission in general
just tell ur engine to work harder
y allow it to be lazy
force it to work hard
and if it wants to catch fire or break tell it no
K, I’m looking at crap on fbm, and it all seems like a scam, what should I look for, and what should I watch out for,
Lower mileage
make sure it runs... no visible issues... look what issues they list... other than that u just gotta go look at the car
You need to see it in person tho
bought my car at 229k miles and it runs fine... granted it wasnt on fbm but still
not just fine
runs amazing
granted im also fixing it
and already did work to it
but still
the way it was when i bought it was still really good for high miles
so high miles aint always an issue
It doesn't matter really
All engines fail eventually
yep
The higher the mileage, the closer it is
depends
a bmw at 50k miles is closer to death than my 241.5k mile ford
But all engines fail eventually
Correct
But your engine is closer to failing than it was at 150k
tru tru
yep
but it still depends on car
wut im saying is dont assume high miles will be bad
u wanna keep that in mind
but dont move past a vehiclr just cause its high on miles
if i ignored my shitstang just cause it had 229k miles i wouldve never had this amazing car
i mightve still been shoving thousands of dollars into my lemon accord to fix things every week
that car only had 140k when i sold it too
fbm is all Private sellers. Literally just people trying to sell their cars. Its not gonna look professional at all in most cases, and thats okay.
But people who actually clean their car for the photo shoot are generally going to be better people to buy from, since well, people who leave their car a mess are going to make the process of buying a Mess
Yea, I just ask cus I keep seeing things like a 2017 vette for 5k, thanks for the info guys,
Not at my computer anymore, just search 22554, 100 mile radius, under 7000k, less than 100000miles
GG @wide kayak, you just advanced to level 3! Chat more to level up and earn top roles!
less than 100k
did u not see the chat we just had....
@wide kayak read the chat between me and @inland pier
those listings that are obviously bullshit is usually dealerships listing the down payment
god i hate dealerships on fbm
i hate them in general
but they r so sleavy on fbm
stealerships you mean
luring u in like a private seller
then when u ask to see the car they give u a dealership location and who to talk to
idc how good the car is
u give me a dealership address the deal is off
tru
but no i meant
i had someone give me the address of a big name ford dealership
a brand new car is a scam anyways lmao
and gave me the name of someone that wasnt their name in the msgs
i then asked if it was a dealership where the car was at
they said yep
i said i was out
ive seen people buy brand new cars for like 30k and then it has a major issue before 80k lol
my brother in christ
for that price you could have bought a shitbox and fixed every single issue
new engine, new trans, new paint job
whatever you wanted
my first car was an accord from a used car dealership... car was being sold for 5k... after fees and shit i was paying almost 8k on it
i bought my car for 1800... prob only spent like 1k-2k on it so far... and its in much better condition than some newer or mor expensive cars
maybe not even 1k
might only be 800 or 900
damn if i had even 5k to spend on this truck that'd be amazing
for 10k i could do anything i wanted
by the time the money i spent on the shitstang (except stuff like gas and oil changes and normal stuff) equals the amount i bought the accord for... not even wat i spent on the stuff to fix it... my car will be fully fixed, customized, and partially modded
oh you have 2 cars?
no
i need a 2nd vehicle so i can rebuild my trucks engine
the accord was my first car
i bought the shitstang in may and sold the accord
only had the accord for 10 months at that point and i spent more on that car just to fix it than i did for the price of the shitstang and fixing it so fat
ive had the shitstang for 5 months
i spent 2k-3k on the accord parts
the parts alone
and other stuff
doesnt include general maintenance and price of the car
if u cant tell i hated the accord
lol
Hmm, very interesting,
Why does buying a car have to be so much pain in the assholes😅
Hmm, yea, I guess I just thought more miles = more issues, but that’s not quite the case.
I dunno man, literally like my first car😅, just trying to get something reliable and kinda cool, but probably not going to be able too.
you can probably find a g37 for around that price if you keep your eyes sharp
my shitstang was 1800...
I was going to make a similar post but I figured I'd just ask here; Would a 09 Honda Accord with 120k miles be a good pick for 9k?
i wouldnt
you're literally just paying for the the fact that is an 09
you can get a car for the same condition for 3-4k if you go with something older
bro wtf xD
again... 02 mustang with 229k for 1.8k
dont settle
find good prices
I genuinely need help choosing something reliable for 7-9k with a decent amount of mileage
At least so it can last me for a good 4-6 years before I buy something else
That's totally fine
With this market I couldn't be any more surprised
like mine i wouldnt say is reliable or good mileage
but itll last me years and its cheap
That sounds like something I'd want honestly
The prices for 7th gen Civics we're around my price budget around 5-7k but ever since 2021 they're outrageous now. I've seen some with nearly 200k miles that still go for 8-9k.
look at fbm
take a mechanic with u (or urself if u know ur shit) and find cheap cars in good condition
dw about miles or small issues
I should probably think about doing that
Specially if they're one owner cars I'm sure they'll be in better condition
mine had 2 owners b4 me
dont assume anything
if it doesnt look bad on fbm... give it a chnace
but obv bring mechanic (or know ur shit) to look over it in person
7k?????? you can try and find an rx7 fc3s but its gonna have some issues and its rotary so fuck the reliabltiy part but you will get a lot of attention
you could get an old benz amg
looks, sounds, no reliablitiy
mans asked for a reliable car in a car guy server
that aint happening xD
no one here favors reliability xD
G37 is reliable
Typical criminal car
so is my shitstang
