I'm not sure how to cover this without looking like I'm whinging, so I'm gonna admit I'm whinging.
I'm a F2P player. I bought the autoloot pack a couple of years back because I was falling behind in AFK gains due to screen clutter after about 10 mins of being active. I've been playing since early 2021 and was for while in the top 5% of the tome. It felt good.
Now I'm struggling to keep up despite playing every day. I can't compete with P2W players and now the tome having actual rewards for being in the top makes it feel like butts. I've had a lot of bad rolls on pets, I can't keep it up and I'm starting to get really down. I've dropped down to top 25% from 5% over the last 2 months and it just really demotivates me as a player. I know I'm not bringing in much cash, but it's becoming more and more obvious that if you don't win giveaways or pay a lot of money, you just can't keep up in Idleon anymore. The folk willing to pay will get the top 5% in the tome and stay there because they get extra stats to keep them there, especially with the stacking nametag bonuses.
I remember there being a lot of discourse around this when the paid pets were introduced and while it was clear that Doot gave you a shedload of gains, you now just can't keep up if you haven't gotten the top pets each rotation. I used to be proud of where I was but now I just don't see the fruits of the efforts when using the mechanics that compare me to other players.
There needs to be some sort of pity system or some way for F2P to keep up that isn't just "spend money, duh".
I love the game but seeing my rank just free fall because I can't afford to spend big bucks on outfits, pets, wings and now trophies and nametags feels awful. $20 packs with one gamebreaking item in each, plus pet gems, plus regular gems to cap out the new bonuses only caters to whales. Lava deserves to be paid for the game he's built, but it feels worse as a player each update
