Maybe you are thinking of monuments afk. You must afk for 1 hour, then your bonuses from there are calculated based on your monument afk bonuses

For divinity, specifically early, you must afk long enough to earn 1 XP. So if you earn 1 XP per hour and afk for 3.999 hours, that's 3 XP, not 4.

Usually the upgraded tiers are rarer but ancient isn't THAT much rarer than base artifact chance. Eventually you will get down to stuff like .01% chances

you should never change that. It will generally lead to less loot over all unless you don't check sailing for like a week straight but even then you'd probably be better off turning on the Siege Breaker talent "Unending Loot Search" instead of changing the minimum chest

If you up the minimum tier of chest the captain will just bring back nothing at all if their chest was lower than what you have set
