the auto refinery auto collects the slats for you, making the bar to 50 nvr move, you have to let all 50 salts that build up sit in it

Power per cycle is how much salt you produce
You want the amount of salt required for the next salt to be less than previous output.

So if you are producing 10 red salt (power cycle 10) you want the orange salt to be a 9 or less. Like that, it runs nonstop (no lost cycles due to not enough red salt) and it allows a red salt pile to stack so you can use it for upgrades or whatever else.

To upgrade your production, you just need to turn off auto refining and allow it to cap out. When its at max, the button will change to refine and level up.

So if you need to get some more red salt because your orange salt consumes too much , you turn it off and wait for the red salt to level up

It slows down your progression a lot if you need stop production for a long time to fix the power cycles
