For the refinery, always try to get to max to upgrade it. So get 200 dust before pulling it out. It's one of the first actual time grinds

You can pull a bit out to build the basics but you really, really ,really don't want to pull out too much because each time you upgrade the refinery, it doubles the amount you get.

Any time! Also if you're wallet inclined, the panda on sale under the wish candle doubles the refinery rate. If you're not wallet inclined, sometimes people do giveaways in the #trade-discussion channel. You can get several pets that way if you're f2p
