The refinery will produce salts on a cycle as long as you have the required materials in your chest when the timer hits 0. In order to increase the rank of a salt in the refinery, you have to let your power bar for the salt completely fill before refining.

To stay salt positive, follow this process. Make sure to grab the merit shop upgrades and always rank up Red and Green salts.

The graphic someone posted above kind of explains it. Basically, you almost always want to have red and green salts set to Auto Refine off. But you need to keep the various salts in balance, so that the orange salt (for example) isn't needing more red salt than is being produced per cycle.

Then you turn auto refine off for other salts, while still keeping them in balance.

OK, so leave red auto-refine off. (Though you'll probably cheat that a bit at first because you'll be salt-starved, lol.)

Once Red is making more than Orange (the second one) needs, you can bring orange up one level. And you just kind of continue on like that. The second page of salts (Synthesis) is on a different/slower timer, and is a little easier to manage.

That's just a Discord thing on some servers. If you level up a few times then you can post screenshots, and it changes your icon. Though you don't seem to have a server icon, so not sure what it means in your case. lol.
