Alright, what happened is this. I did the Kattlecruk set, it looked like it unlocked. I switched to another character and did the copper set. The Kattlekruk was not unlocked, but the copper was. I switched back to the first character just now, the copper was unlocked, but the Kattlekruk was not. I just unlocked the kattlekruk again, switched again, and now it's staying unlocked. I have no idea what went wrong there early on.

Losing deathnote kills after running your Void Trial is not a bug.

didn't help that the knockback spam made it basically vibrate on my tower instead of going past it and respawning at the start

so it oneshot my tower basically
