Poll 52 -- More MMO Multiplayer stuff

Currently, there are 3 major MMO features:

Party Dungeons: Cooperative, visual, and impacts game stats
Seeing/Chatting with other players: Visual
Guilds: Cooperative, and impacts game stats

I have long been thinking about a 4th feature, and I'm curious to see what people enjoy most about MMOs.

I like massively co-op stuff, like server bosses or daily random events where 100s of people play them at once for rewards

I like trading! Anything that can create an in-game economy, where I can get rich within the world and become a master merchant!

I like competitive stuff! Anything where I can match myself against real people in some way, and become 'the best' and be top 500 or even the #1 best!

I like "soft" competitive stuff, where I can show off my greatness but not "compete" against others necessarily. Think Player Houses, where you can be the #1 visited house, but you aren't fighting House vs House pvp

Poll 53 -- For Simplicities Sake!!

Many of the early-mid game Alchemy Bubbles have two resource costs (apart from liquids). This may be a leading cause of Alchemy-Fatigue and an unnecessary component of complexity that no longer serves a purpose, and is something that I haven't touched on in ages.

All bubbles should only have 1 resource cost, not including liquids. This way you can hyper-focus on a bubble without having to juggle with 2nd resource you need, and people will have an easier time with it.

Some bubbles should stay at 2 resource costs, as understanding different resources and balancing between them is just part of the game, and its definitely better this way.

Poll 54 -- Random Event Parties

So random events will be little boss / monster encounters that you'll have the choice to do every now and then (like Dungeon Happy Hours). They will 100% be solo-able, and will only take ~3 minutes to complete. Your reward will be consumable items (statues, exp balloons, loot dice, etc) and a small chance for rare items -- think 1 in 50 and 1 in 200.

However, I want to involve the Party system in this, so consider the following:

**If you have a party, the random-event boss gets a little bit more HP and has a higher chance of dropping items. IMPORTANTLY, this drop rate wont scale very much:

If you SOLO, you'll have a 1.00x drop chance.
A party of 3 would have a 1.21x drop chance.
A full party of 10 would have a 1.50x drop rate. **

In short, you can completely ignore parties, do the Random Event solo in a few minutes, and get a 1.00x drop multiplier to rewards.

OR, you can invite & join others on the map / group up with friends, and get anywhere from a 1.10x - 1.50x drop rate for your troubles

Currently, while most things cannot be interacted with during Quick-Ref, there are certain actions you are allowed to do during Quick-Ref (like trashing obols, turning in Tasks, playing the Arcade).

I've been mulling over translation for over a year now, mostly due to the difficulties / limitations of how translating would actually take place.

A cooperative Clicker update.

It would not be fast-paced, sweaty like Owl/Roo, but would be only few upgrades a day, and less linear. Imagine sharing a savefile of cookie clicker with a friend, where you share the same cookies and share the upgrades you make with them. But there would be tons of twists and turns to make things more interesting long-term than Owl/Roo. Rewards would be bonuses shared by everyone in the "group", similar to how guild bonuses work.

Player Housing.

You would be able to build your own setup (maybe even your own map...? With custom platforms placed wherever you want, within reason). You would be able to visit other's maps with a code, and there could even be small bonuses -- maybe a top player could build a Gilded Throne that gives players +1% AFK Gains permanently once they visit it, so noobs can go door-to-door collecting tiny bonuses, and pros can be the ones building those bonuses and feeling like a baller as noobs drop by.

Server-wide bossing

Simple stuff, you all as a community (not as tons of individual small communities, just the 1 big idleon community) take down bosses for rewards. The "fun" of this would NOT be the actual fighting itself (it wont be like a Skill-based Darksouls boss), but rather the communal spirit of doing damage and trying to kill (the boss would probably just let you do damage to it until a timer runs out for the day).

As I've said before, I'm still focused on current balancing, and probably have another Balance patch after v1.02 before I jump into new stuff.

However, I want to know... what would you like to see added to idleon?

Guilds. I want to be able to build up something with friends, and see how we stack up against other guilds!

The card system will allow EVERY monster in the game to drop its own card, at a very rare chance. They will show you info about the monster (akin to what youd see in the wiki), as well as telling you some stats and giving bonuses

I have a feeling that the way Minigame Players will get very bad very quickly in just a few more updates...

For example:

Imagine there are 8 different minigames. You have 14 characters, and you bought a few "+2 daily minigame" things with Gems. So you have like 98 minigame plays a day.

If a minigame takes 1-2 minutes to play, thats like 3 hours a day just to use them all up

#

So here's my Question:

Lets say I changed how minigame play's worked, so that it was X per day across all players.

You would get 100% of the gems back, and would no longer have bonus Minigame Plays
The cost of the Minigame Play's in the Gem Shop would stay the same
(So you can just re-buy the new version if you want)

Poll 22 -- arcade..?

So I had this system in my old game, was pretty cool. You got daily arcade balls to launch, and it was pretty fun to watch the outcome. You could also complete tasks to increase the # of balls u got per day, and there was even a daily card-system where you could get BIG gems if you got a good hand (like a straight/full house)

In addition, the rewards were decent, but you couldn't really "get ahead" (if you bought balls, you'd just end up in the end with less gems than you spent on the balls) -- so it was a good way for F2P players to get some free gems, and P2P players still had fun watching it go

There's currently a Trophy in the game called "Lucky Lad", which is approximately a 1 in 200 Million chance of dropping from any action -- killing 1 monster, mining a rock, etc -- and has some decent Drop Rate bonuses when equipped
On the other hand, there are no Rare items which give no stats

**How would you feel about rare 'things' that do nothing? **These would be things that ONLY YOU CAN SEE, that you could maybe show off here in the discord, or to friends IRL, that would prove you got super lucky. I say 'things' because they may not be 'items' but just symbols or some cool picture on screen to make you feel proud

How would you feel about NON LUCK things that do nothing? Imagine the same thing above, except instead of it being proof you got 'super lucky' it would be proof you actually accomplished something, like kill 100000 monsters in colosseums, or some skill-based thing later on

But because you haven't reached world 3, you only have 1 available tower and you'll basically lose on wave 2 or 3 every time you try

Lemme set the scene... Imagine you JUST got to world 2. You run over to this big 'cauldron' looking thing, and you're immediately confused by all the different buttons and tabs.

Obviously I'm focused on getting out all the small features listed above within the next 6-8 weeks. Trust me, I am not mentally prepared to make a big update for a while!

Party Dungeons (Would be little themed dungeons filled with not just monster fighting, but puzzles and other activities, all ending with a boss fight. You'd be able to create a 'party' and invite anyone you see in game!)

World bosses (Bosses would have trillions of HP. You'd get to fight them for 30 seconds alone, and your damage would be added up with everyone else in the game. The entire playerbase would get rewards if the boss is killed within 72 hours, or some limited time, and there may be some bonus items for doing lots of damage)

World 4 (as I've said before, this will be something of an 'intermission' world. There wont be lots of crazy mechanics like in world 3, and the new skills would be very basic. It would be half the size of world 3 in terms of content, although it would have equally as many new monsters!)

You must be hungry for more party dungeon info, so here you go: Party Dungeons are not meant to replace regular idleon gameplay, but rather just be a way to 'take a break' from it for a bit. They're semi-unique experiences each dungeon run (Random items during the run, and some pretty variable gameplay, when you see the World 2 Dungeon you'll know what i mean), and much shorter experiences. You can just sit down for anywhere from 5 ~ 15 minutes, and just have some fun and get cool stuff at the end. No long term planning, no idle-waiting!||

FrogmanA Consider Party Dungeon 1: Very chill, just mindlessly farm frogs and drop ingredients. Very clear end goal, just kill the big frog when he appears!
banditbob Consider Party Dungeon 2: Very Structured, you have to pay attention to which room you're in and play accordingly. The 'goal' constantly shifts based on the room, and gameplay is much more diverse.

As many of you may know, I am planning on not continuing chains with World 4 equipment.

  • By "chains", I mean how equipment requires more than 1 of the previous equipment to craft... like Gold Helmets requiring 3 Copper Helmets.

FOR EXAMPLE: The Lustre Helmet will only require 1 void helmet, instead of like 3.

Yes, I am planning on there being a small chance for any pet you breed to be SHINY! Like in pokeymon with the different colours and all that.

How would you feel about a DEFINITIVE ENDING to certain "old" content, and a system that tracks your completion progress & gives massive bonuses?

In other words, redoing (or just adding new level caps) to certain content such that you can fully complete a world, and never really have to think about, or interact, with it again.

i.e. imagine Stamps & Statues have a "definitive" level cap to them, so eventually theyre all maxed out with no more progress to be made

Pros: Less content to have to juggle in your head as the game continues to expand with more content in worlds 4,5,6,7,8.

Cons: Back-tracking to old content to level it up/interact with it, while still being a thing during the first few months of playing, would indeed stop happening once maxed out, and would at that point take away the complexity that many find fun

Poll 48 -- New content for upcoming Weekly Updates!

I've loved all the enthusiasm for the recent weekly updates, and I'm gonna keep them going full steam ahead! Of course, there are certain things on my agenda to add to these updates, apart from QoL/Fixes.
Without further ado, I present to you a list of said agenda thingies:

Nightmare bosses: I have an interesting twist for these, involving capping certain stats so you can only grind so hard (not set in stone, this is subject to change). They will cost a LARGE amount of keys -- think x25 or x50 to enter -- and will have CRAZY good loot! Also, new rare boss items of course! The point to these fights will be to allow for boss farming to be both FUN (the 'interesting twist' mentioned before) as well as QUICK (costing 25 or 50 keys will mean you don't have to run these 100s of times). I will be scaling rewards so that doing 1 nightmare run (say it costs 25 keys) WILL be better than running 25 normal runs.

Pet followers: Pets that follow you! Depending on game lag, you may or may not be able to see other people's pets -- I'm also thinking of having it be the first ever "account wide" equipment, so you dont feel the need to have to get cool pets for all 9 (10 soon!) of your characters. They will probably have bonuses, but whether theyre unique bonuses or just +stat bonuses I have not yet decided.

Elite Classes: These are sub-sub classes, and there will be 1 for each main class (warrior, archer, mage) available at a new world 4 NPC. They will specialize in cooking / breeding / lab respectively, and will all come with 15 new talents and 1 family bonus (check out the family tab in the codex if you forgot what these are). For those curious, the first 3 Elite Classes will come from the following subclasses (most likely, this may change): Barbarian, Bowman, and Shaman.

Sigils: You cant vote for this one, because I'm already planning to do this really soon. Mid Febtemburly is right around the corner! These will be fun, and EXCEEDINGLY idle. You will be checking on these probably once every week just to see progress. No micromanaging of equipping/unequipping here, as bonuses from sigils will be passive.

Tower Defence Boons: You may have noticed the BOONS button to the left of the towers while playing worship's Tower Defence game. These will be special abilites cast by your player (think Attack Talents, but more powerful and tower-defence related), unlocked through various systems. These will make Tower Defence more dynamic to play.

World 4 Rift: Accessed in the Octodar map (one of the last world 4 maps), this will be a very strange "end-end game" area. It will be relevant in future worlds too -- to explain it simply, when World 5 eventually comes out and people reach the end of World 5, they will return to the world 4 rift to grind "endless" content. It will be an area mainly meant to push your account's limits, and won't do much for progression, and wont add any new crazy gameplay mechanics.

Server-wide Raid Bosses: Most smaller MMOs have these -- rotating mega-bosses that everyone can sorta "pitch in" daily to kill. Your damage would be capped to a certain amount (say 0.01%) so that no one player will kill it solo. The fun here would be to participate in something "big", as well as see what wacky spin I put on the whole concept whenever it rotates (since you know thats what I do around here!). Also like... new raid-boss rewards and stuff!!!

More secret areas: I love places like the Crypt in the sewer, or King Doot's burial ground. I want to do more of these 'weird' areas that make you think "oh man, what IS this place? whats it gonna make me do, whats its purpose?"

World 5: No, world 5 isnt coming any time yet. I wont even let you vote on this, but if you liked world 4 then world 5 will be for you as well, because I am going to stick much closer to my design philosophy I had with W4 than the one I had with W3, while obviously making it unique at the same time as I always do!

Poll 49 -- Which new content would you be more excited for?

๐ŸŒ‹ **World 5. **Includes everything you'd expect in a new world -- 3 new skills that drastically change up gameplay, new monsters to fight, new quests, new Smithing equipment, etc. Will follow in the footsteps of World 4 in being "idle" focused, while also being new and intriguing!

๐ŸŒŒ World โˆž. Includes NOTHING that you'd expect in a normal world. No new skills. What it DOES have instead is: A series of increasingly difficult never-ending tasks that push you're account to the max. The rewards would include cosmetics only, as far as I'm currently thinking.
The main idea with World โˆž is that it's a place you always go back to when you're done with new content (like once you're done with world 5 when that comes out, world 6 when that comes out, etc).

If I added Keyboard movement (walking around on platforms, jumping up/down platforms, climbing ropes, going into portals), would you EVER use them?
