Not sure, but I think it can still go all the way down to 1, it's just somewhat unlikely. You should be able to improve your chances by going to mastery 0. And, of course, switching off the option to auto trash bad loot.

Multiple shadows from different light sources are a thing, but then the shadow from the visible light is non-existent (unless the hidden brighter light nullifies it)
