generally it's hard to catoragize, its a decent mix of genres that focuses very heavily on progression through the aqquisition of gear and the defeat of bosses, it has a decently in depth building system including various sets of furniture, painting tiles, and different ways to slope blocks. as the game progresses you gain access to certain mechanics such as flight, and the game becomes much more movement focused. there are certain boss mechanics that can be easily avoided with enough movement accesories, and some that can be avoided with an optional item called the rod of discord. housing is a requiered aspect of the game due to how important NPCs are, a few which are essential to almost any run are the golblin tinkerer, the mechanic, the guide (for first time players) and a few others.

if you want a higher difficulty i would reccomend looking at something like the calamity mod or fargos souls mod. but if you want a more casual modded experience theres a decent mix to choose from. some would be Mod of Redemtion, Thorium, tremor, anchients awaked, elements awakened, and spirit mod
