Has anyone else noticed a discrepancy in number of gems from asylum depending on which attacks you use?

Like this is completely anecdotal but I did 10 attacks killing with poison on Occulon 15 keys, and got 3 or fewer gems each time, bar one. Then I did 10 fights with claw and got over 4 gems each time, nearly double total. Several times getting 8 or over.
