I have been playing research wrong this whole time. I invested 100 lvls into the single tank gains and I went from a couple K rp per day to over 100m. Fml.

Sometimes when your research slows down it is very valuable to shut off valves on all tanks that don't have an RP Gain increase option for a while, pump a lot of RP in to those, then open everything else up again.
I did that around 100k and farmed just those +RP and +RP for tanks of this color for a couple weeks and moved up to billions pretty much right there.

And now all my tanks that have vat bonuses applied are in the trilions

But what you absolutely need to do is get 1 or 2 golden nests from the gem shop, always breed your newest normal pet with itself in the first nest for purposes of catalog progression, and breed pets you're actively trying to get triple genes on in the second slot. Then when your other pets are falling behind, move one of them to your new pet breeding nest to get higher level versions, and move those higher level pets to their own nests. This strategy is less necessary if you have all gold nests tho
