It's fun for the shits and giggles. But it did have a pretty in-depth resource management if you wanted to build a proper kingdom/army.

Lol my favourite little thing was a single assassin if they survive long enough to reach the top of their gatehouse, you could let all your troops in without having to siege the walls and towers.

Make a single tower, quickly send your archers in small groups to the same tower, have like 200 archers on a tower that's only suppose to have like 5-8.

Just sucks when he sends enough of them that somehow one of them escapes the 100+ archers raining arrows down onto them. So all your farms go poof.

The other nice thing was that each unit genuinely had their fights that they were good for, or that they got streamrolled by.

yes i like that too, like only 20-30 knights get through 200+ archers if there are no crossbows or other good stuff against heavy

Firepot throwers were the best against knights. Just set those slow movers on fire. You'll burn the entire army.

But the best strategy I found overall, was quickly build horse archers, and hit their production line right at the beginning before they can build an economy up. It forced them to burn through their starting gold and when you got them down to no visible resources in their stockpile and no money, you can literally walk in against their king against 0 troops and kill him.

Yes horse archers are so good, if you have critical mass and micro them a bit you have more or less full control of the battlefield

Then you can be a complete ass if they are built up. Use horse archers to take out their archers, put an assassin on their gate so your archers can move into their towers and shoot down into their castle killing every single peasant that spawns in as well as any newly created troops until they finally kill the king.

When you're 1 vs all, sometimes gotta do a few cheap shots to kill/keep them busy while you focus your main army on the rest.

also crossbows in towers are also very good, if you have like 5 towers of crossbows with some Ballista for long range almost nothing is getting through although it is a bit expensive

Funny thing is the engineers actually had a perfect device for it. That little moveable barricade, just like irl they are perfect for your archers to get in close enough to snipe the ones out of the towers.

they are not bad but i believe the Ai almost never uses these which sucks for them i guess

Yeah I think the best siege ai was the king richard one, but even he would make more catapults/trebuchets/rams. He wouldn't touch those or ballistas.

yes most ai just use catapults and/or trebuchets so you would need a small troop to take care of those (or have so much stone you just don´t care ) and than they will have a very hard time getting through

most of the ai is only a real danger at the beginning but once you got half way good defences you can just chill

Also understanding what each AI actually does. I mean Rat should never be an actual threat unless you're super new to the game.
