Phenomenal game. If you like isometric and/or eagle eyed top down games:
where you are an animal;
trying to figure out a grand mystery about why things persist longer than they should;
involves a pinky-purple colour representing something about the above;
involves 3 major areas before a final area and boss;
actiony gameplay with low HP (for the most part);
then I have 3 games to recommend including this one. The other two being TUNIC/Secret Legend, and Hyper Light Drifter. These two focus a lot more on showing than telling, though Death's door gives you very small tidbits as you play, enough to egg you along trying to figure out what fuckery has happening in this game.

And if you've played HLD and you're like "wtf drifter is an animal?" he's a cat, as shown in the second game HLBreaker.

Ehhhh, sorta but nothing's being paid. I generally muse somewhere about good games after I've finished them.

This one took over 18 hours to 100%, and that was with a lot of wandering around rechecking for secrets. None of these games are very long, but they're all interesting in the stories they tell and how they approach gameplay.

Also giving me a hookshot type weapon is always going to make me happy because I bully the shit out of enemies and bosses with it.

Of which TUNIC and Death's Door both have. You don't need a hookshot in HLD, your dash is basically the same thing. Clears the same sort of gaps.

Also the fact it's weird 3 games fit that description, though.

If you don't like reading: Hyper Light Drifter.
If your reading needs to be mechanical: TUNIC
If your reading needs to lightly tell a story: Death's Door.
All action games, a small handful of weapons and gear, HP and/or healing is low/tight, and progression isn't tightly restricted in any of them, except to the final areas.

I hesistate to say "Dark Souls" but the game has done the action genre a huge favour by having an easy game to point at for "you need to learn", but these games aren't nearly as punishing as Dark Souls.

TUNIC will fuck with your head though.
