Assuming you're oneshotting them, the only way to build crystal faster is as you mentioned. The two talents (Arcane Crystals and Backup Energy) and their Tesseract counterparts (Inviting a Plus One and Arcane Charging).

One thing to note: Kills per Charge caps at 90. You can see your current number on the Arcane Charging upgrade (it includes Backup Energy)

• ES would be better, but portal mobs aren't "Real" and therefore cannot proc statues.

Can remove all crystal spawn chance cards and reset the star talent for it, to reduce spawn chance but that’s it.

Also just don’t play actively and they won’t spawn
