Once you have <5s, you can do 5s ticks through the quick ref, and <1s you can do instant gaming in w5 town. As it gets even lower, it starts to be able to do multiple growths per visual cycle, which speeds up the process a lot. If you're hitting a cost issue for speed/kitsune rock, then I'd recommend trying to level the palette colors that give speed (minty blue and chartreuse)
