i can't speak to the advice you've received before since i'm not familiar with your name -- but ever since i started playing which is over a year ago, general advice here on maincord has always been:

1. push into next world if you can reasonably beat boss (using candy, etc)
2. do short amount of backtrack only as needed to make 1 more possible
3. starting in w5, backtracking may need more love since divinity is important
4. if you can get into w6, do it asap but realize that kruk is a big dps check that, until recently, has been a big hurdle for most accounts

once you unlock w6 spirit locks and get access to w6 spices - a lot of folks will use bm temporarily to get the 1 spice gathered so they can quickly get access to more meals. so there are applications for the territory aspect of bm farming

yeah no your salt refinery is out of whack, you wont be producing enough red to feed orange, you will want t toggle the auto refine option so orange auto refines but red is set to 0 so you can rank up
