yes. the way sailing works is it simply 'accrues time' - which you can see in the skill window. that time is then used once you open the map - why it is possible to equip star signs just when you need them for sailing, rather than needing them all the time

Evolutions get rarer and rarer the further you get. Sure there is a possibility you get it in a day, but I would say it's better to just harvest those plants and progress further. Progressing further -> More Speed -> Easier time to get high tier plants

The shovel you want to click as often as possible. The range is always the same, but it takes longer and longer to get an extra nugget (see screenshot)
Nuggets are also highly weighted to give you a small amount. So don't expect to suddenly jump from 16 to 50k. It would already be lucky to get a 10k nugget this early, but I will pray for you

the way you are supposed to do it is get 5 giants each in the order it tells you - however it simply ends up being 25 total giant mobs but if you kill a giant one of the next monster in sequence before getting the 5, you have to continue on. so for example, you can do 1 giant of mob A, 3 giant of mob B, 1 giant of mob C, 5 giant of mob D, then mob E will require the remaining 15.
or if you were like me and did it completely wrong and did only 1 of each mob A thruogh D, then you'll need 21 of mob E

the only mobs that matter are the ones specific to quest

no it is pure rng gamble. you can see the current min/max odds of your nugget in IT. however the distribution is one that is heavily skewed so never expect anything higher than ~5% of the max it states. most folks will cap out their natural rng nugget at around ~10k. at that point, the only reliable way of getting a higher nugget is through the equinox unlock which will increase both the min and max by x% each time you don't get a better nugget.

Should I be saving my plants to get more evolution tiers unlocked for the log book?
For T1-T5 evolutions, you will get them naturally and easily over time as you progress through gaming. Do not save your sprouts, just harvest them all.
For T6, you will get them all naturally by time you reach around ~1B/T red bits.
For T7, you can easily get them all once you have instant gaming (very late stage), requires deep farming (W6 skill).
For T8, requires instant gaming (see above), a lot of setup with chem plants, and pray to the RNG gods.

What's the best way to get Evergreen/Chemical plant mutation in gaming?
Because genes have terrible scaling/diminishing returns in providing additional odds for getting the unlock - you want to make as many attempts as possible with lower odds. More rolls at low odds >>> fewer rolls at only ever so slightly better odds.
Generally recommended to not wait for more than ~1% for evergreen or ~0.1% for chemplant.
Be warned: it can still take you weeks or even months to unlock if you've upset the rng gods.
General strategy:

• harvest all -> make an attempt
• Have sprinkler charge? Use sprinkler -> harvest all -> make an attempt
• Have a log game game? Use log game -> harvest all -> make an attempt -> use sprinkler -> harvest all -> make an attempt

Uhh I assume you have every tower type unlocked? Should be able to squeeze out 50. I did it with pretty meh towers a long time ago when pushing the dream and another person or two were able to copy something similar to get it as well
