I haven't "capped" speed on sailing yet - still don't think I have a single ship that can hit the final island in 2hrs, but I have at least eldritch of every arti from that island so I'm not in a super rush to push anything in sailing. go back and refarm early islands for more speed on each boat. You'll do this cycle a few times until you're at the last few islands. Then it's time to start yeeting for long trips (or sending a few boats with high tier speed and keeping the rest back to farm earlier islands)

Honestly the first 6 boats were my slowest after some early game sailing. You need gold to upgrade the first 4 loot and first speed which are a little bit of achoke as you're trying to get as many captain/boats unlocked. After boat 6 though, all of your sailing speed comes from rare island drop (and boat n - 1's loot comes from that island's normal drop). So you start to boost speed for boats 7+ a lot more "comfortably" as you push islands or go back to farm artis, etc.
