Depends what you’re doing and needs. You should make sure your main archer/“smither” has pushed enough levels.
There are some anvil mats that are used a lot more than others

your stats are simply captain level * base stat = so the left captain's base stat is 32/8 = 4 speed + 8/8 = 1 speed == 5 speed total so its less than the right captain

Because your lvl 8 captain is really +4% (x8 lvls) and +1% (x8lvls). So +5% per level whereas the one on the right is +9% per level and therefore better in the end. It'll outscale the one on the left quickly

make sure your speedrun talent is booked to highest level you have unlocked for most time
