I don't think breedability affects pet power, no. I could be wrong, but pet power is affected by various bonuses from certain sources, your chr's breeding level, and the egg rarity the pet came from.

to get more xp, you can invest your grey dna from failed breeding attempts into the more xp talent in upgrade shop. You can also try and find the 'nest eggs stamp' to increase breeding xp. it only takes purple logs so somewhat cheap.
