Gravel's use is as a light tank, people usualy use her as a very cheap and reusable distraction for threatening enemies

Since enemies always attack the last operator deployed in their range gravel can be used to tank all the damage from a boss or elites while your DPSs kill them

Some elites/bosses also have skills which she can bait and put into cooldown

You might not be findinf much use for her since the early chapters usually don't have very threatening enemies to the point of requiring a reusable ligh tank like her

But if you want to replace her i'd suggest kroos to add a bit more ranged damage, since your team can struggle a bit with that, or orchid, for slows and general support
