UCI_Variant option isn't present here. It's likely you have got the wrong engine - can you check if the executable path of the engine in the GUI does indeed link to the one you sent earlier?

This is by design. Variant GUIs intentionally hide the UCI_Variant option, since the GUI is responsible for setting that value according to the variant you selected in the GUI.

so essentially in liground you currently can't switch to a different ruleset in Janggi, it always uses standard tournament rules (variant "janggi"), therefore it selects the same rules to be used by the engine.
