How do you get these charecters

at the start of your chuni set, you can select a map, and inside that selected map a certain item.
items will usually be characters, but also songs, statues and such. items can also come with task tracks, which you must clear to obtain them.

maps are sorted in categories, being event, chunithm, chunithm verse and ongeki/maimai

to progress a map, simply play a chart. you get steps by playing, and much more by simply clearing the song, getting higher score, using a higher skill, and having a higher lvled skill

maps with task track songs usually are already unlocked, unless the map was added recently, ie the verse map, which means you can only obtain those songs by completing those task tracks

(verse episode 1 songs will be fully unlocked by default once episode 2 releases)
