#What are the ranks of your countries scouting organization?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
In the UK we don't have ranks. We have roles like APL PL and SPL, but they are not ranks, and just leadership roles
nice

In Poland (ZHP) we have a small division for women and men, so it looks like this
Men:
Młodzik (Young, Fresh one)
Wywiadowca (Scout)
Odkrywca (Explorer)
Ćwik (Smart, Experienced one)
Harcerz Orli (Eagle Scout)
Harcerz Rzeczpospolitej (Scout of the Republic)
Women:
Ochotniczka (Female Volounteer)
Tropicielka (Female Tracker/Scout)
Pionierka (The first to the new)
Samarytanka (A Female Samaritan)
Harcerka Orla (Female Eagle Scout)
Harcerka Rzeczpospolitej (Female Scout of the Republic)
are there combined troops (male and female) in poland?
There can be combined and there can be divided. It depends on the team. I'm 100% sure they are divided in another organisation (ZHR)
But because our language recognises genders of words etc we have different names for ranks as well
alright thanks
Np
we have beaver, cub, scout, venturer, rover
its not really country but rather seascout, but we have Dolfijn, Zeeverkenner, Wilde Vaart and Leiding
we don't have ranks but we do have sections we have joey, cub, scout, venturer and rovers
In czechia its funny- the smol kiddos are 'little frogs', then bigger kiddos are 'Wolf cubs' for boys and 'firelights' for women, then scouts from 12 to 15 years, then rangers and rovers and finally oldscout from 26 i think
-Jins
-Givers (Verkenners 🧍🏽♂️/ 🧍🏽♀️Gidsen)
-Jonggivers (Jongverkenners / Jonggidsen
-Wouters ( Welpen/Kabouters )
-Kapoenen
Not really ranks, they’re mostly age dependent
-Pengakap Kanak-kanak (Cub Scouts)
-Pengakap Muda (Young Scouts)
-Pengakap Remaja (Senior Scouts)
-Pengakap Raja (Royal Scouts)
-membership
-explorer
-pathfinder
-outdoorsman
-venturer
-eagle scout
For Thailand, this applies to all Land Scouts, Air Scouts, and Sea Scouts!
- ลูกเสือสำรอง (Cub Scouts)
- ลูกเสือสามัญ (Scouts)
- ลูกเสือสามัญรุ่นใหญ่ (Senior Scouts)
- ลูกเสือวิสามัญ (Rover Scouts)
@shadow linden what rank are u
waiting on my second class board of review
air scouts?
Nice
how about you?
mhm! That's right
how does that work out?
mmm, welllll, the air scouts are basically scouts that are supposed to learn about <quoting Wikipedia>
flying and aeronautical activities such as air navigation, identification, flying and gliding.
These activities are supposed to be supported by the Air Force
Somethin' like that, yeah
thats like our version of the C.A.P
yes
ahh, that's cool!
ahh, noice 👍
We don’t have ranks but rather separate by age;
Beaver/Béabhur (6-8)
Cub/Macaomh (9-11)
Scout/Gasóg (12-14)
Venture (15-17)
Rover (18-25)
There are ofc leadership roles within these but they’re not really ranks
Afaik ranks are fairly uncommon outside of the US and countries it has influenced
Lolll in the Netherlands we have the exact same
same here in the netherlands
Also don’t have Ranks here in Germany, at least DPSG not. Our Kids are separated by Age Group in the follow groups:
Bieber (Beaver): 4-6
Wölflinge (Cubs): 6-10
Jungpfadfinder (Young Scouts): 9-13
Pfadfinder (Scouts): 12-16
Rover: 15-21
Leader do their scout leader course and afterwards might also do the Woodbadge course
We in the VCP (Also Germany) dont have ranks either like above. Age Groups here aswell
- Wölflinge (Cubs / Youngest one) (7 - 10)
- Jungpfadfinder (Young Scout) (10 - 13; Note that some groups skip this entirely)
- Pfadfinder (Scout) (13-16)
- Ranger / Rover (16 - 20)
- Erwachsene (Adults) (20+)
Some Local Groups may have a custom scarf as a Honorary Scout for parttaking for a long time in important roles. Tough we have Age Groups its mostly the Group Leader choosing when / who recieves a new one upto Scout.
Squirrels: (Ages 4-6)
Beavers: (Ages 6-8)
Cubs: (Ages 8-10½)
Scouts: (Ages 10½-14)
Explorers: (14-18)
Network: (18-25)
My districts network shut down sadly 😢
wait wait wait
my german people @polar isle and @warped surge
germany has two scouting organizations or is DPSG and VCP just branches of the organization?
Lots of countries have multiple NSOs
Belgium has like 6
Here in Ireland we used to have two (Catholic Scouts of Ireland and Scouting Association of Ireland) but they merged in 2004 to form Scouting Ireland which remains today
Two different Organisations / association to my knowledge. Tough if I translate it correctly we are more of an association. There is also the BdP (Bund deutscher Pfadfinder) which is also more common.
this is confusing
@shadow linden has leveled up! (1 ➜ 2)
Not confusing, just unfamiliar
We learn
Fun fact, the UK has two NSOs, The Scouts Association (Scouts UK) and Scouting Ireland 🤣
Now there’s something confusing for you to work out
i mean
Riddle me this Batman
Yeah
Scouting Ireland is all-island
But TSA is only in the UK and so there’s Scouts NI (along with Scotland and Wales ofc)
Idk if that makes sense
If I’m including too many acronyms lmk
We got the rdp (Ring deutscher Pfadfinderverbände), which was founded by several scouting organizations since WOSM only acknowledges one organization per country. Part of the rdp are currently 5 scouting organizations, which are descending in size DPSG (catholic aligned), VCP (Protestant aligned), BdP (neither), PSG (female only, catholic aligned), BMPPD (muslim aligned, only joined recently).
In addition there are quite a few smaller scout organizations ranging from a few hundred to several thousand members.
In France it is classed by age groups and it depend in function of the organisation;
SGDF;
- farfadets(6-8 years old)
- louveteaux/janettes(9-11 years old)
- scouts/guides(12-14years old)
- pionnier/caravelle(15-17years old)
- compagnons (17+y)
Idk for Other organisations
Well we did have Mormons in BSA before the LGBTQ inclusion
But then after they didn’t like it and pulled themselves out of there
so yea little story idk
In Spain we are separated in MSC scouts (Catolic Scouts) and ASDE (Scouts) I pertain to Gilwell (Alicante) which is part of MSC. And we are separated in
Manada - Inspired in the Jungle Book. we are in seisenas (Red, Green, Grey) They shout ''LOBATOS HAREMOS LO MEJOR'' (7-10 years)
Tropa - Inspired in Baden Powell, we are in patrullas (Tigers, Lions..) They shout ''LISTOS'' And the patrol shout (Tigers, veloces y constantes..) (10-14 years)
Pioneros - Inspired in India, we are in tribus (14-17 years) They shout ACCION (Red andralia) (Marismas...)
Rovers - The oldest, they are who serve us in the camps (17-20 years) They shout SERVIR. And they aren't in seisenas, patrullas or tribus, they're like a big family.
Scouters (Monitors)
we are seperated by age and not ranks
so theres cubs, scouts, venture, rover and adults
What does spl stand for?
In New Zealand its Kea(5-7), cub(8-10½), scout(10½/11-14), venturers(14-18) Rover(optional)(18-23 i believe) then leaders. You can be a leader and rover at the same time if you want and same for air/sea scouts
@sick widget has leveled up! (0 ➜ 1)
Senior patrol leader
Here in Greece:
7-11 Years old (Wolf Cubs)
11-15 Years old (Scouts)
15-18 Years old (Detectors)
18-24 Years old (Scout Network)
The same goes for Sea Scouts and Air scouts. By the way you can also be a bigger scout and teach kids things about scouting.

Whats the difference with pl (in the Netherlands we only have apl and pl)
Generally SPLs are separate to patrols ie for flag they stand with the leaders for us
Let's us give them more responsibility and make other people PLs
Ohh but then they are a sort of leaders
Eh depends how you look at it
Different units treat them differently we dont have any official structire here for apl/pl/spl apart from them existing and some guidance.
Interesting
In Aus we have a very complicated system
In cubs (the 2nd lowest section) there are Sixers who are in charge of a patrol
In scouts there’s pl apl and unit leader but also a patrol for the oldest scouts (just my unit)
In venturers the roles are elected but there are four ranks, venturer, member of the unit council (not officially outranking but able to vote on more and propose things), vice chairman and chairman.
With the sections it goes joeys, cubs, scouts, venturers and rovers
25 for us and I believe we standardised across the pond
Depends on the branch:
Cub Scouts are: Fresh Footprint, Alert Footprint, Agile Footprint, Free footprint, Jumping Wolf
scouts are: Adventurer, Explorer, Pioneer, Scout of Bolivar
Venture Scout are: Pilgrim, Precursor, Traveler and Visionary Venturer (Caminante Visionario)
Rover Scout are: Precursor, Expeditionary, Discoverer, Founder and Rover Citizen
Venezuela
so i am from Sri Lanka we have;
sigithi scouts --> cub scouts --> junior scouts --> Senior scouts --> PLC --> sl
progress level;
bronze star > Silver star > Gold star > Member ship award > Scout award > Chief commissioners award > Prime ministers award > Presidents award > then scout leader stuff
Remember to mention the adult scoutmasters ranks:
Przewodnik (Male)/Przewodniczka (Female) - translates to** "Guide"** and is the lowest adult scoutmaster rank which gives you a powers to take legal care of the scouts on the scout camps, right to vote and right to accept and perform the scout promise for the scouts
Podharcmistrz (Male) / Podharcmistrzyni (Female) - translates to "Under/Vice Scoutmaster" xd, and is the second adult scoutmaster rank, gives you all the benefits of Przewodnik rank, and the right to be a guardian of the scouts preparing for their Przewodnik rank, right to organise scout courses, and right to be the scout camp recreation manager
Harcmistrz (Male) / Harcmistrzyni (Female) - translates to Scoutmaster, is the highest adult scoutmaster rank you can get, gives you all the benefits from the previous ranks, the right to be a guardian of the scouts preparing for all of the ranks, you have the prestige of being a member which basically forms and takes place of maintaining the Polish Scouts and Guides Association
R u aussie?
im singaporean
but we do have spls pls apls etc
also adults have ranks too (no stripes on badges tho)
apls have one stripe, pls have 2, spls and troop leaders have 3
im lazy to explain adult rankings so ill just put the site here https://www.scout.sg/programmes-and-resources/rank-epaulettes/
Have you ever wondered about the epaulettes worn by Scouts of various age and appointments? These epaulettes represent the identities and responsibilities of Scouts who wears the uniform and embraced the spirit of Scouting. Let's find out more.
Epaulettes play a practical role in visually representing a Scout's identity. These shoulder insignia...
Yh ranks in the uk work weird but in the uk we have different sections which are: Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network but part of these is squirrels is apl cubs have apl and pl and scouts have different sections based on animals whilst still having apl and pl but then we have spl which are abt to leave scouts for explorers so they arent in a patrol in my unit but Im an explorer and a young leader so I have completed all my training and there isnt rlly ranks in explorers or network bc network js go out and drink and talk whilst doing moderation
Where i am, Cubs "patrols" are called sixers, with one seconder(APL) and a sixer (PL)
@hasty grove has leveled up! (0 ➜ 1)
Oh yh I lowk forgot abt that
We have here in the dutch
Bever: [6-8]
Welpen/gidsen: [8-11]
Scouts/ verkenners [11-15
Explorer [15-18
Stam: [18-21]
Plus scout [21+
Stam: rover scout
arent they just age groups?
We have age groups
W
In South Australia we have age groups:
Joey 5-7
Cub 8-10
Scout 11-14
Venturer 15-17
Rover 18-25
And then we have Unit Council Ranks inside that consists of:
-Unit Leader (someone who is about to age up and isn’t in a patrol)
-Patrol Leader (PL, one per each patrol of 6-8 youth members)
-Assistant Patrol Leader (APL, 1-3 in each patrol)
Anyone who isn’t in the unit council is just a participant or youth member
In uk age groups are:
Squirrels: ages 4 - 6
Beavers: ages 6 - 8
Cubs: ages 6 - 10 1/2
Scouts: ages 10 1/2 - 14
Explorers: ages 14 - 18
Network: ages 18 - 25
In our organisation we have Things for different things so we have for squirels nest leader and beavers is dam leader and cubs is seconder and sixer and scouts is Assistant patrol leader, Tempory patrol leader, Patrol Leader, Senior patrol leader. and for explorers we dont have ranks we have section leaders which oversee the child ranks in the other sections but for our international camps we have unit assistant leader and unit leader and im currently acting as a unit assistant leader for holland but we have a contingent leader which oversees all the unit management but we dont really bring them in but yeah
Also, for Venturing in the US there is: Venturing, Discovery, Pathfinder and Summit
i mean...venturing is like a secondary program.
Squirrels? as like the little brown fur animal?
They’re red or grey but yet
Northern American variants are all grey, native ones in the UK and Ireland are red but someone imported greys in the 1800s or sm so they’re either at risk or endangered rn
They are and they aren't, when you say Scouts, I think in this order: OA, Venturing, Scouting America, Sea Scouts, not to seem hostile
Squirrels are the newest section
Hello fellow canadian
howdy
what troop would u be? im 20th Scarbrow West
I don't say what troop I'm in (cuz I'm very paranoid lol) but I'm in a toronto troop
oh ok
Have you been to halabourton?
this year will be my 3rd
In SriLanka we have the largest squirrels
Joeys
Cubs
Scouts
Venturers
Rovers
Is the second section just the countries animal cause we have beavers
