#What knife do u use for scouting?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I use a bunch of things, but mostly a sharpened handle of a spoon
Sharpened handle of a spoon? Thats creative.
An hour, a random spoon that’s got a pretty long handle (long enough to have about an inch or two of blade and and space for a hand to hold) and random metal working tools can manage to get you lost in trying to create a random thought that you had when you were about to go to sleep.
Oh yeah and to hold the whole spoon, i hollowed out the inside of a bigger, wooden spoon to put the metal knife spoon in
I use this one, but mine doesn't have the MAXAM logo since it's a old one.
Though it's still in perfect condition, and i even have a belt holder for it
Funnily enough the Engine room of one of our Tugs has the same one
Mine is from my grandpa, he was a navy sailor.
Cool
Great and proud country of Sweden with another great craftmanship! 🇸🇪 🇸🇪 🇸🇪

jk its a really good knife
My personal favorite
opinel 12 explore allume-feu (mhhh, France.) lost my first one in a camp in Italy, I've lost my current one because my mother took it to do something....
random kitchen knife
Victorinox rescue knife since it has a rope saw and locking blade is my main
We are not allowed knifes at our scouts don't ask what happened my scout group is a bit.. you know
usually using morakniv for knifes, they are cheap, very durable, easy to maintain and come full tang, so batoning and stuff is doable with em and if one decides to give up ill go buy another one
SAK and gerber
literal bayonet
My personal every camp carry
For scouting i use a lot of knife, but usually i use an opinel "Falcetto" N10 (Or in English an Opinel Pruning knife No.10)
Opinel N. 8
@next hornet has leveled up! (0 ➜ 1)
Mostly a scout knife from Helle, but i sometimes use a Morakniv
Did you know that the KM version is 20kr cheaper for the same knife with different colors?
Who in Their right mind would buy a KM version tho
I use a swiss army mountain s=knife, the Gladiator, has 3 knifes, 2 can openers, siscors, and other features
Yes the blue one is illegal to carry in the UK as it is serrated and locking and too long
3 of my 4 are illegal but got good enough reasoning and they really don't care
yup
Mine all have some form of assisted opening with thumb pins and holes too
I don't think that makes them illigal, but the length probably does if nothing else does (apart from the red penknife)
It does, you're not supposed to be able to open them with one hand/in less than a second
What country?
imagine having restrictive knife laws
I can carry a full-length fixed blade in public and it is fully legal
In most places in Texas a toddler can legally carry a sword
Yeah well you can also buy guns at the supermarket
depends
I usually carry the good ol victorinox swiss army knife, the mountaneering one
do if I am going to do some bushcrafting i´ll carry a small foldable saw and or a small hatchet
nice collection
do i was looking to biu a more dedicated knife, something with more mmf , you know? ill check out the good ol truper catalougue , let see if i found something
Thanks
I have a couple that are everyday carry and a pair that I bring every week to scouting
I always carry a Russell Grohman sailing knife I got from my dad and then I usually have a multi-tool and a handmade folding pocket knife I got in the states.
I personally prefer a letherman surge. It is just so versitile and i nead most of it frequently
i prefer the wave +
I used to have a wave but i just realy love the bit more bulky surge ( also this scissors are brilliant)
yeah fair
@ruby cliff has leveled up! (3 ➜ 4)
nice
i use a victorinox huntsman, just like this one but with a pocket clip on it
i use the other version, the one who has the file instead of the saw, more practical in every day life in my opinion, do i would love to have that one for when i go to the field and what not
Wait you guys use knifes?
Yes ofc
Woaahh Thats sick, love it
You don't?
We don't use knifes cus it's a safety hazard
But if we can I'd prolly use a balisong
My explorer unit had 3 ish feeder groups, only 1 of which taught knife skills regularly (mine) we had explorers who didn't know how to open a Swiss army knife
It’s funny actually, POR recommends using Swiss Army knives to start off knife skills, but I think they’re more dangerous than they’re worth
Safety hazard
What country doesn’t use knives?
i'd love to see them try and cook food without knives
Yeah lol
Just use a spoon lmao
Cutting ingredients?
Lol sounds like a nightmare
I’m surprised you’re not British
Probably a former british colony
Parang (Malay knife used for chopping/slicing) and pocket knives
I'm Pilipino
I meant when camping on school groundsT-T
But it were in outdoor camps like Jamboree or cltc were allowed
Oh ok lol
I literally have a knife on my keyring lol.
Though i didnt take that to school.
We factor it into our risk assessments and most of the time we dont have any issues with people bringing knives.
More injuries come from chopping food...
i use a classic victorinox
still need a knife
I have the V42 by Böker
That’s a fighting knife 💀
I'm looking to get a new knife, are Opinels nice?
Depends on what you are gonna use it for
Cant go wrong with an opinel or mora
just get both
mora for the more heavy cutting or splitting wood, and opinel for the smaller stuff
Not allowed to carry them in the UK
well normally carry two knifes with me, one that never changes is my SAK fieldmaster and other one is either a morakniv or a walmart version of a benchmade bugout
not strictly true
you can carry them with just cause
going to scouts/a pioneering activity is a just cause
I take locking folding knives with me to cubs/camps and its completely fine
I cant where i am 😭
do you recommend it?
Yes it's absolutely worth it. It is a super cool thing to have. But the sheath is unfathomably long
Get a custom sheath or else you're gonna have to deal with this:
What you ever going to use it for?
I just have it as a novelty item, I can technically carry it for self defense at my age although I’d rather just wait till 21 and get a handgun because even if it was in self defense any case where a minor is carrying a full-length double-edged dagger is very suspicious
Classic opinel 8
dont worry about it
One of the base Morakniv models
It used to be so shiny
Need to get/make a new strop for it, but it's been with me for like 5 years
heard about them, pretty good reviews for what i heard
Foxly
Used it for about a month, very very useful.
Since a few months I've been using the böker little dvalin tanto style. Its actually more a little axe than a knife but really fun to use
Nothing like the good ol swiss army knife
wood cutting
How on earth will that help for wood cutting
maybe
I have 3 knives on me rn and all three would be more useful for chopping wood than that
Perfect for hunting (I slaughter chicken and fish)
Fair ig
and aesthetically excellent knife
It looks more like a clench grip tho
dagger
Agree to disagree
My aesthetic taste is weird
Feel like you’d like this tho
7/10
So that’s Damascus steel and antler
What was the correct use of this?
This is fully titanium
nice
7/10
This is my most recent purchase
That’s my edc collection
I get a new knife at every international event I go to
The green knife handle is very nice
Yeah it’s super comfy
nice
i need this swiss knifes
This looks like the knife from the scouts canada scout shop
Mora?
the brands i can think of are mora, EKA and fallkniven
think so yeah
and my other one has no brand on it anymore bc its used s0 much
You have a foto?
I wish they gave me a knife, but I can see why they didnt (my patrol has 4th grader scouts XD)
almost every single french scout got this one
