#scarf trading and value
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
What I found is that a one coloured bought scarf is worth roughly half of a national scarf and a two coloured bought scarf is ca 0,75, is this correct is this false? Like give me some discussion and let’s make a value table of scarfs lmao
Hmm...for me I tend to look at things like the elements that went into crafting it. A solid color fabric with printing is certainly less involved that something with a patch on it, or something with stitched-on piping or an embroidered design.
I do love doing math based on tables tho (looking at all my D&D magic item pricing charts), so I'm down to help out if we can work to establish a set of categories or some such
I’m 100% down
So let’s start with the bottom
Like a penny, the single coloured scarf is the least worth
We build from there
Ok?
yah
I'm at work, but can get mine out when I get home tonight and start coming up with all the elements on the different ones.
It may also be worth considering a category for awards. Not just anybody can wear an eagle or wood badge scarf in the states...not sure if other scouting programs have similar things
Nah
But design how old it is and cost I think are very important
If you get a 10 year old scarf it’s gonna be worth more than a scarf you bought yesterday
And how nice it looks is also very important
well, quantity and scarcity of the necker is one of the most important factors
That too ig
for example a UK necker will be less valuable than an irish necker
Yea but you need to find someone from Ireland to trade with
And some aren’t allowed to trade
Thai scouts I don’t think are allowed to trade away their scarfs
whilst your only supposed for when you go on int. trips, you can technically just buy UK neckers from our scout store, whereas the national necker for ireland is only given out for international events and I believe you have to request one if you are doing a trip, and you only get the 1
Hm
aswell as the more common factor of just quantity of scouts per NSO
Yea ofc
Ok but let’s start with two things that are very much standard and anchor everything off of those two
Basic plain one colour scarf
And two colour scarf
How much are those worth in comparison to each other
How many two coloured scarfs do you get from a one coloured one
I believe u get 2 irish neckerchief 1 to swap and as personal I hope so cuz I do want to swap one lol
But can someone tell me y our irish one is one of the most sought after lol was told people are willing to give away anything for it
😂
has a really cool design as well as scarcity, alot of people are desperate for em lol
Yeah was told tents and all are given for it 🤣
@hexed temple has leveled up! (1 ➜ 2)
@kind meadow you can't forget tartan neckers
I'd disagree on the age factor. I've whipped out some 50+ year old scarves to trade before (1971 WSJ specifically) and got hardly a blink before they declined
What?
Yea but then again design and such Also play a big role
But a totally new Norwegian scarf isn’t as interesting as a used one, where you can see it’s been used
It has a certain charm to it
Yea whats that
Oh
We have that
As our national scarf
Different colours ofc
But that yea
@oblique rover
Are we starting the black market of scarfs?
Yeah, tartans tend to be used for the regional neckers
No it’s the norway scarf not a regional one
For the whole of Norway
It’s the official nsf scarf
Norsk speiderforening
Region usually refers to an area such as Hudson Bay coast or rockies, if I were to call Canada a region I’d be wrong because the only thing that makes Canada a thing is the national borders we’ve decided are there
No linguistic barriers really
Natural? Barely
It’s a country sure
But it sure as hell ain’t a region
This is the alberta tartan, in necker form it represents my council which is a specific region in alberta
Depends on how you are using the word
Correctly
Oxford dictionary definition for region "an area or division, especially part of a country or the world having definable characteristics but not always fixed boundaries."
Canada is region, a definable characteristic could be the monarchy
If you said cold and it’s a monarchy I’d just think you were talking about Norway
Or Sweden
Or heck
Fuckin the uk
So like bruh
So like bruh
since you really want to die on this hill, I'll rephrase my original statement
tartan neckers tend to represent places
these ar echeap
Depends on the tartan
if its proper material then here its double the price of standard neckers
i bought like 19 of those at 2 camps 1 in scotland and 1 in the us
Idk it was just the first tartan necker that came up on google
Language kiddo
Hold kjeft hurpe
gjentar, språkbruk!'
Nei
well he is gone i guess trotskieists arent good scouts
Damn, I wanted to ask him if he enjoyed silverstone/our local area
did he already leave?
Oh, what did he do?
Disrespectful towards other scouters @jaunty hawk
I see
In what way
I’m not sharing how he was but trust us, he was. it wasn’t me who yeeted him. I’m just answering a question
If you know he wants to be unbanned then he can either appeal to the email in #camp-rules-old or dm a mod
I know that there is one of the norwegian scarfs that you aren't allowed to trade, which gives it alot more value
iirc official necker here costs around like $2-$3
Damn, I pay 12-15 bucks for a necker
Wtf that's expensive
Jk as I have seen necker prices at ebay it's reaspnable
also the scouts pride is around that price
12-13 aight but 15 bucks for an official necker is expensive imo
I get them for free
In Norway prices are higher since we earn more, for us 15$ is nothing
damn
true
We get our group scarf for free, but we pay 150 dkk (around 20 usd) for our national scarf
neckers here shouldnt cost anything more than £4 to £8.50 ($5 to $11)
group one is provided, national necker is £8.50 if you are buying extra
Damn that's expensive as hell
interesting
Imo its a bit overpriced but its fairly priced according to what we earn
Irish international neckerchiefs now cost €19 for those who get the permission from the international commissioner to buy them so they’re going to become even more scarce in future
I’m away with my group right now and we decided not to get them because that’s an extortionate price for a neckerchief
they used to be €12
our unit scarfs are free
and alot of vintage American neckerchiefs are cheap
mostly because we dont wear it on the daily
like we used to
That is true. I find that a lot of the adults and even some youth try to find excuses to wear their uniforms as little as possible lol
on the other side the spectrum
You gotta wear the socks to meetings lol
here
Oh I know I’m on the opposite and so is the unit’s SM. If there’s an excuse to get out the class A we totally do it
I understand the uniform but a necker is like nothing and everyone knows a scout wears a necker
I always wanna wear my uniform, for Aussies the uniform is so expensive and I feel like it’s such a waste due to not wearing it much. If you’re a leader or youth helper you wear it once a week
Me finding excuses to wear my uniform 🙃
How much is the Gilwell scarf/necker worth?
like thes standard woodbadge one?
I meant that one
well its not the most valuable ofc
its prob like less than 13 dollars usd?
not inculding the woggle
Thats when buying it, but in a trading sense on camp(:
likely not much, if its just a random scout. but if its a scout who knows a bit about scarves, it will probably be worth something for them
I thought this channel was for scouters trading inbetween eachother
Mostly scouters
scouts are fine as well
theres a few here
Føck that swedish name, we are SPEIDERE!
SPEJDERE ON TOP
🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾
Gilwell/woodbadge scouts aren't allowed to trade it and even in some nso's you get stripped from being a gilwell/woodbadge scout
I agree with this
you got one?
20 års grense i Norge):
ukult, har den på watchlisten, er typ noe de fleste ledertrenere/styremedlemmer i kretsen har
Anyone wanna trade scarfs with me?
I would be interested :)
Which country Are you from @uneven grove
Cyprus
Great!
Sure
I’d also be interested in a Cypriot scarf. I did study abroad in Nicosia 😸
Really??
The University of Cyprus?
It was Intercollege actually
Oh wait...they changed their name so it was University of Nicosia
Oh wow, that sounds like a really cool experience, I think one of the places im looking at has a campus in Pyla
Ill go look for my stuff to trade
Oh, where are you from??
I am from the UK
Oh, whereabouts exactly?
york
Im from Northampton, in the east midlands
Wait is this the red one with like the stripes of the norway flag?
how much does that cost?
also $15?
13.82 usd
and then shipping
and their normal scarf is 11.05 usd
That trade I made 2m ago was a bargain then with my $2 necker
well yes, but personally i dont trade in value, more in how cool i think they are
^
also where the necker is from
i dont need many more national neckers to have all of northern europe
which is my goal
you could sell that necker I had in norway for a way higher price though, same with the norway contingent thing I have I saw someone on fb sell it for $23 here
Good point
which ones are you missing
me?
yeah
I need the British/uk one, Icelandic and Finnish
as well as latvian and estonian, although i couldnt find a picture of them
I can sort ya that
I got a british wsj contingent idk if that counts lol
yeah, its a national one
its fairly uncommon to find someone using the standard UK ones cause most intl trips will usually have them customised
which one?
uk
ya, the red one with like the white border with silhouttes?
yeah exactly
sound, you want the standard version?
np
do you have them at home or do you need to buy one before?
I just collect intl neckers regardless
probably got one lying around somewhere
lemme check
did you find one?
yeah, I have a brand new one
oh cool
