It's kinda like a guessing game. The ghost typically doesn't spawn too far away from their favorite room, though it CAN happen (which is really screwed up btw-) And try to keep your sanity above about 60% if you have the option. The ghost tends to not even want to start a hunt until about there. (Then again, I play on professional- not nightmare, so this might be a bit different between difficulties)

can anyone help with my constant game crashes (pc) ? I looked in the troubleshooting bit but nothing on crashes. I'm 99% sure its not a hardware issue as I can play other games fine. GPU graphics up to date, no overclocking, thermal temps ok. disabled all overlays, tried with and without vsync, run in administrator, disable full screen optimisations, limit fps. game crashes aren't predictable. Sometimes I can play for an hour or two sometimes just 15 mins
