place several items around. it'll pick up 2+ and throw them when it uses it. it's radius based so piles aren't recommended

the best way to do it is to try and place the book where the ghost has to be either inside the same room as you, or, the book can be interacted with from a small corner of another room

basically limit the books range to one room to the best of your ability

you can look for Shade regardless of when you get writing, and the T3 range is huge

there are lots of ways to figure it out, so long as you understand the mechanics and are mindful of which lights are on. Plus motions can really help, too

Sanity drains at a fixed amount in most dark rooms, affected by difficulty, map size, and solo/multiplayer. Knowing the drain rate can give you a good idea where you're at
