The fact that DOTS ghost takes longer to record than other videos is crazy. It either needs to take less time, or DOTS state needs to last longer (preferably both), because I'm so tired of sitting there for 15 minutes getting 75% of a DOTS video over and over. It's also crazy to think that whoever's buying this media would look at 1.75 seconds of a ghostly form walking through the DOTS and saying, "Hmm, yea... This could be anything. I'm not paying for this. I will however give you $5 for this 0.5 second video of the first half of a candle blowing out, and another $5 for this 0.5 second audio of the second half of a candle being blown out."

I get it now. I just had a game with a bonus objective to capture a video of a ghost, a Goryo, and I was watching it go back and forth in D.O.T.S. mode from the truck computer. I put it in record mode so that it would automatically start recording the moment the ghost was visible.
After a few minutes of watching the D.O.T.S. ghost go back and forth multiple times, with the recording failing each time, I gave up on that sweet bonus objective money.

These are very fast games so Goryo is quite literallyimpossible to get. You essentially have to just rule out every other possible option.

the big thing there is losing evidence so you'll have to start learning ghost abilities

The lowest I usually play on is Nightmare.

2 evidence generally narrows things down enough where institutional knowledge of specific ghost abilities will help you figure it out.

Then again you don't have to do higher difficulties at all if you don't want to

UV and ghost orbs for example narrows it down to Banshee, Obake and maybe Mimic. You know it can't be a Hantu even though Hantu has both UV and Orbs because Hantu is guaranteed to have Freezing as one of its evidences on any difficulty except no evidence.

Oni that flickers most of the time durning the hunt

Phantom is mostly invincible making it hard to loop for a newbie (like me when about dealing with a ghost hunting phase)

Deogen when it’s getting close to you, it slow down as a snail.

Raiju speed up if you leave any electronic on around.

Obake shapeshifts during a hunt. Wraith doesn't trigger salt. Hantu breaths cold air if breaker is off

A ghost's speed is really important and is generally the first thing you notice during a hunt. It helps you narrow down a lot.

If it's "normal" speed, meaning not noticably faster or slower, you can rule out Moroi, Deo, Thaye, Revenant, Hantu, and the Twins.

Those are all pretty easy things to notice so that's what, 6 or 7 ghosts you can eliminate easy even with no evidence

Oh - and smudge timer to help with spirit and demon, that's not guaranteed though

Though, the Twins can be tricky because you need to know what "normal" sounds like. One twin is lightly faster, the other is slightly slower.

You can identify a mare because it has a chance to turn off a light immediately after you turn it on.

Onryo is also easy because they don't have a cooldown on blowing out firelights.
