I think my Hantu was broken because first I thought it was a Mare because when I turned on a light switch it immediately turned it off and then it got me evidence for a Hantu but I turned off the breaker and waited for event so I could see if it was really one or a mimic and when it did a event there is no freezing breath and I made sure to wait for another one to make sure I didn't see it and then I thought it was a mimic and got it wrong

yeah, trick with mare abilities is to just not spam the lights at all. between hunts, turn each light (the ones within 4m of the ghost's current location) on, once, let crucifix burn (so all the lights get turned off), then you can try again on each light, just once. Most of the time, it's when I'm first entering the ghost room after a hunt or something, turn the light on, and boom, ability. wait 10+ seconds, and boom, another ability on another nearby switch.

This isn’t a sufficient onryo test as the crucifix range can be outside the range of the candles therefore it can start a hunt.

One candle, light it 3 times directly on top of a cruci. Count how long it takes to blow the same candle out, onryos will blow the same candle out in less than 20s.
Obviously after the third - it’ll try hunt.

Make sure you don’t have your lighter on as onryos count that flame as a candle too.

Can orbs appear later into the game? I watched a friend locate the ghost room based on temperature and looked for orbs for about a minute and never saw any; I can confirm because I was looking too and it was a clear view of the whole room. Several minutes later, someone else checked for orbs and saw them, my friend tried again and saw them as well

grab parabolic (t3), smudge (t2), lighter (t3), and salt (t2), then run to kitchen, put salt in the doorway on the way in, and crouch loop the ghost around the kitchen counter, OR standing loop at the dining room table (much better when you get the hang of it). if you have friends playing, have them bring crucifix, firelight, and motion sensors so you can use those to test for the boring ghosts once you've determined the ghost you're dealing with is a normal ass ghost

bring all that equipment straight to the kitchen and place it all on the corner of the counter closest the doorway out of the kitchen

music box has been good for getting the ghost photo objective for the additional 3 points, been getting between 18 and 27 depending on objectives even when dying. death makes getting back to lobby quicker

could have other people use t1 dots to get some of the bunnies for the extra points

and let the ghost kill them, run at the ghost to make it faster lol, once you know what it is
