every ghost, including onryo, has to wait a cooldown after blowing out a flame, to blow the same flame out again, 20 seconds. when the onryo is using its ability, it will ignore that cooldown. onryo will not be able to use its ability while it's smudged, so it will act like other ghosts until the smudge timer ends at 90 seconds.

so onryo, when it's not smudged, is the only ghost that can blow out the same flame/candle twice back to back without waiting 20 seconds in between

so yes, light it back up as soon as it's blown out, and if it blows the same one out again within 20 seconds, it's 100% an onryo (or mimic)

other thing -- for the shade ability, why is it able to event in the same room as players? I was waiting in the ghost room for salt when it did an event, but turned out to be a shade

when the ghost does an event, it checks to see if there's anyone within 15 meters.
If there is someone within that range, it will pick one of those people, teleport nearby <--- that's the important part, it teleports
Then start the event

you do not need to be in the same room as the ghost for it to do an event

Shades are probs just less likely to event when you're in the same room as it or smth

so odds are, if you're in the same room with a shade, and it events on you, it probably walked out of the room, then decided to event, then teleported back to you to do it

i also doubt it's easy for multiple game devs to work on things in parallel, with pure code, it's easy with tools like git, but when you start including assets like models and prefabs among other things, it becomes more difficult to manage dependencies between members of the team, one person waiting on two other people to finish their tasks in order for them to start working on their own tasks. there are tools that help but they always cost money money money

The other options are Jinn, Oni, or The twins. I am not thinking it's a Jinn, because despite not having turned off the breaker, it hasn't done an sanity drain interaction. I do not think it's the Twins because no Twinteractions. So, in my mind it's ewither an Oni or the Shade.

It wasn't always the case though, funnily enough. IIRC a few years ago, every ghost, including wraiths could step in salt (but Wraith was the only one, at the time to not leave footprints), and leave footprints, but was unrelated to fingerprint evidence. And this caused some confusion, people thought if a ghost left foot prints, it was a fingerprint ghost. But at that time, fingerprint evidence was specific to only hand/fingerprints. Glad they fixed it so that only ghosts with UV as evidence can leave Footprints.

I know all these : Deo is fast when he doesnt see us but very slow when he has line of sigh. Rev is slow when he didnt see but he is fast when he sees. Thaye has bullet speed. Mare cannot switch on a light. Jinn cannot turn off the breaker. Oni does not have Airball events and it doesnt blink much making it much more visible during hunts.

I love that they never fixed the glitch that allows you to look into the garage on street maps with a video cam without having to enter the house. Good way of discovering whether or not the breaker is in the garage or the basement. And can see Orbs without even needing to enter the house if you are lucky.
