The only true hiding spot are closests. Really any location you can break LoS of the ghost can be considered a hiding spot but there are more reliable out of the way locations to do this in

Got a question about onryo. Do the tier 3 lamps not count towards the 3 candle hunt thing? Had a ghost that still ended up being a onryo but didnt hunt/explode crucifix after blowing them out.

I'm testing my AI prompt today, and it included 2 things pretty well:

Flame Confusion: The Onryo hunts after every 3rd flame extinction (e.g., candles, firelights), but players may miscount or misattribute blowouts to random events, not tracking the cumulative total across all flames.

Subtlety: The flame-hunt link isn’t obvious without deliberate testing, and early blowouts might be missed or ignored.

Also if Onryo is under a smuge timer, it will cancel the attempt, but almost always there was a blowout missed.

Another thing to add, and this is a big one: Because Onryo uses flames as crucifixes it may be trying to hunt and players don't realize it.

It also included that Onryo evidences are similar to Mimic, and that testing for a hunt is dangerous, but I omitted that.

I assure you they cannot. They also can't do it during Setup Time, hunt cooldown, or if no one is in the house. In all those instances the hunt attempt is canceled and the cycle starts over.

Listen to speed, of your on line of sight try to see if the ghost has breath, check ghost blinks, and try to take a picture and have it step in salt, all these would rule out a lot of ghosts
