I place 3 down near each other, along with a crucifix. I will wait until all three blow out. No hunt after a few seconds. No onyro.

I literally had a game where we were on Tanglewood, ghost room was nursery. This was no evidence and we did onryo test early. 3 candles, 1 crucifix. Avg team sanity was probably around 70. Ghost blew out 3 candles, no hunt. So no onryo, right? No candles were relit either.

The simplest way to test Onryo, assuming you're in hunting range sanity-wise, is to keep a single firelight on top of a T2 cruci. Just keep relighting it and don't keep track of count. If it's not an Onryo, it will hit the cruci while the flame is lit. If it is an Onryo, you will see it blow out the same firelight more than once in a 20s timespan. Other ghosts cannot do that; they have a 20s cooldown on a given firelight.

Goryo is honestly easy. All you have to do is remember where it is consistently hunting from. If after several hunts has not changed the location of where it starts from. For example: if ghost room is garage it will never hunt outside of garage. And ofc on higher difficulties it's easier to notice because ghost room typically changes more. Yet if it's goryo, room won't change.
