Oh good heavens. the xbox kinect was a 3D camera that could be used for motion controls (like the competing wii) without need of a controller. it had a mic with it that was a very low quality. since a lot of people had xbox 360 bundles with kinect, it was the only microphone they owned and thus there was a reputation for "kinect mic users" being deafeningly loud and completely incomprehensible static
