You can talk but the ghost will not understand what you are saying. If you're pressing the buttons to ask questions though that should yield some kind of response, either a red or white light will appear on the spirit box itself when asking.

Throwing the book means it interacted with the book. When they interact, if they have ghost writing and aren’t hiding it, they write instead of throw

(I have no proof that that is exactly how it works)

You can tell the difference between a ghost turning off the breaker and an overload because when a ghost turns off the breaker or a player when you turn the breaker back on the lights that we're on will come back on if it was an overload any lights that were on will now be off like the end of a hunt.
