The plague doctors travel where villages suffocated by spreading diseases.
Their coats carry dried herbs, bitter oils, and powders meant to slow fever, dull pain, or keep infection from spreading another night. Most are physicians first, trained to cut rot from flesh, identify poisoned water by scent, and contain panic before it becomes as deadly as the sickness itself.
The lanterns they carry are fitted with alchemical catalysts and volatile compounds designed for outbreak control. Their light can preserve weakened tissue, purge infection, and neutralize airborne contagion.
But when a disease begins to alter rather than kill, treatment ends.
Entire infestations have burned beneath that glow. Mutated hosts collapse where they stand, their corrupted flesh igniting faster than dry cloth.
The doctors are taught to recognize the exact moment a patient becomes a threat and to act before hesitation becomes disaster.
